I am not really a Russel fan per say. But my eyes tell me he is a top 4 defender that compliments the Oilers so far this year.

I am only saying taking the numbers without any context is far inferior to the eye test.

The best way to evaluate player performance would of course be using the eye test AND analytics. Unfortunately I do not believe there is currently any sure fire conclusive way to do that in the game of hockey either.

There are more words here wasted on the topic of Kris Russell than any GM spoke during free agency. I didn't realize leftovers warranted such dissection. Perhaps he is a pretty meh 4/5 who blocks a lot of shots, has no scoring upside, yet D is overpaid these days in general and call it a day?

I'm hoping Todd does a 6000 word essay on Jiri Hudler's leftover contract and 5 games played (guessing, haven't checked) next.
