I need a new location

The leafs defence is so bad that Gardiner actually might be the best one.

Agreed. Expect for Rielly and Zaitsev.

This year? Zietsev maybe. Rielly has struggled a lot.

100% Zaitsev is better. Rielly with his struggles is still better.

Yeah i'd agree on Zaits. Really steady, whereas Gards is still prone to the brain-cramps. I'm not sure what to make of Rielly right now.

Rielly doesn't really seem ready to be a #1 dman but nobody else can really play those minutes. Ideally he'd be a 2nd pairing guy imo, at least at this stage of his career.

Yeah I agree. I guess with the lack of other options he is being thrust into a position that he shouldn't really be in.

Him, Rielly and Zaitsev all have things that they do well, but none appear to be complete d-men as of yet. Rielly by far the most talented though

Reilly is a stud!

Babs trying to cut his minutes by not giving him pp. but that's only because nobody close to him defensively.

Sarcasm? He has struggled mightily this year. Particularly on the defensive side of things. Like Lums said, he has a ton of raw talent. He's still young, and he can turn things around, but he hasn't been a "stud" this year.

Its hard to tell with Stormey because he's an ex Leafs fan

But probably he's not being sarcastic. Rielly is better than almost all other Leafs defensively

Solid game, ice tilted towards Miller from the Martin fight onwards.

I'd like to see them shoot more: there were far too many extra passes, playing too cute, squandering several really good chances in the 3rd in particular.

Even the vets like Komarov and Bozak were guilty of it.

fight was tough to call, Gudbranson had the early edge but Martin finished off in the better position. Probably a draw.

So when is the funeral and which Leafs ended up dieing? All I managed to see was the OT, the usual pathetic shootout, and the fight this morning.

Ugh, glad I didn't watch. They really seem to get caught up in that sometimes and can't break free of it.

The huge majority of NHL goals are not the result of 4 pin-point passes and a tap-in or bar down.

I wonder how many of those extra passes were because the guy was mindful that Miller was having such a good game?

That said, I thought it was a pretty decent performance overall... if you can outshoot everyone 40-24 you're not going to run into the hot goalie every night, especially if we can maintain that top-10 Sh%

Oh for sure, that's having a mental effect, but you beat a hot goalie by getting in front of him and getting shots through, looking for rebounds.

He saw too much last night and we were trying for the cute backdoor or completing one extra pass.

it was pretty obvious the game plan was to shoot high glove side... but the accuracy just wasnt there... hence all the missed shots

For sure. I saw a bit of that from JvR, but overall they made it a little bit too easy for Miller

Rielly really needs to get his shots on target, especially if he's wristing it.

Impressed with Gardiner's shot accuracy though. Pretty good velocity too.

i never have been a huge fan of gardiner's decision making but this year he seems to be doing okay

people criticize not having rielly on the point on the PP but truthfully, between him and gardiner its gardiner getting the shots through and on net more often... which is a crucial part of a good functioning PP
