The Contortionist is another young prog group doing some pretty crazy stuff.

Here is the opening track from their newest album, Language

Hell Yeah, love Porcupine Tree. They also steered me towards Spocks Beard, who were a revelation.

Phantoms highlights.

Lyon is relishing being the starter, Leier is piling up the points, and the Morin-Sanheim pairing seem to be doing well together.

Weal is also having a huge season, but is probably gonna end up being another Akeson-style tweener.

I know you are joking, but the endless replays of that goal drive me up a wall.

Yup, Mason is horrible....

...just like Martin Brodeur...

...and Tony Esposito (center ice goal by Jacques Lemaire that turned around Game 7 of the 1971 Cup Finals against Montreal with Chicago leading game 2-0 at time the Lemaire goal was scored)

... and Bernie Parent (no video exists, but he allowed a 3/4 ice goal to Barry Gibbs in a game tied 0-0 in the third period -- ultimately a 1-0 loss -- that the Flyers needed to win on final day of the regular season to get into the playoffs. Bernie then said he lost the puck in the sun due to glare coming in through the concourse).

Of course Mason is not of the caliber of these HHOF goalies but I got a big laugh out of the Milbury and Roenick types who called the Game 2 vs Washington goal in the first round "the worst goaltending mistake in playoff history" and cited that single play as their evidence why the Flyers couldn't win with Mason (never mind fact he was Flyers' best player in seven-game series against a far superior Rangers team two springs earlier and damn near stole Game 7 in a 2-1 loss that should have been 7-1).

Nuevirth and Mason have combined to allow 3 goals on 22 shootout attempts. I think that is pretty good. The problem is with the shooters.

Last year they allowed 14 goals on 34 attempts. Not so good.

Hence my comment. Because you can probably go back a few more seasons and see the same thing with Flyers goalies during the shoot out. They've been horrible previous seasons and this year they've been solid.

Yeah for the most part that is true.

Shockingly over the last 4 years Bobrovsky has been the best shootout goaltender. Only allowing 17 goals on 86 attempts.

Really? I don't think anyone other than Mason truly played well. They were dominated for many long stretches, out worked along the wall, gave up way too many good scoring chances and completely fell apart for a while after the Bruin's first goal. While AMac was no worse than most and better than a few, he in no way played "well", borderline adequate would be a better description of his play.
- BiggE

In the second period, AMac threw a blind pass to the left side corner to nobody, ensuring a Boston offensive instead of a Flyers exit. I yelled, "To whom, Andrew?!? To whom?!?"

It's upside down from last year, in that the goaltending was responsible for points last year as the offense sputtered. In shootouts, the goalies are now #good and the shooters are #bad.

Yup, it's 4th best in the league good.

The Shooters are ranked 15th this year, but are only 28th best all time. Only Tb and Boston are worse.

Yeah. I don't particularly like Cousins and Simmonds in the top 3 shooters. I'd go with Ghost, Giroux, Voracek.

Actually 15th isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Not horrible. What is their record in shootouts this year? Is it 2-1?

Last night was Simmers first time in the top 3. It's been Cousins, G, Jake all year so far as the top 3. Man that building erupted when Simmer stepped on the ice for that attempt.

Yikes third to last in shooting % all time, and dead last in save % all time. That would certainly explain the futility.
