Wow - Schenn on the 4th line? I don't watch as much as I'd like, but is he in a slump or something?
- wolphnuts12

Fourth line but lead team in ice time last game...

Line number mean nothing in today's NHL.

CV has done nothing to lose his spot, though.
- Scoob

True, but you will need to sit someone to get a kid in. I'm not saying that CV should never play another game, I just want to see Leier get a shot.

He's among the team leaders in turnovers per touch, and one of the worst shot suppressing forwards in the NHL.

But he's one of our top PKer's on our subpar PK and a good soldier so he will never sit

You can say VDV isn't a huge concern, but to me it is. It shows that either Hak and co are extremely poor at evaluating talent, or talent evaluation does not trump all else.

- JFlyers00

I can cherry pick stats also. Vandevelde has a solid 52.54CF% and in GA/60 at 4 on 5, Vandevelde is second best among the regular PK forwards, surpassed by only Simmonds.

Your read on what it shows, is inaccurate. Talent is just that. Scott Laughton is a lot more talented than a number of players in the lineup, but that doesn't mean he automatically plays.

VDV will never approach 700+ NHL games played. Hakstol won't be a coach long enough in the League for that to happen. Anyway, if you are trying to defend a 4th line/AHL player being tied in goals scored with Giroux more than 1/4 of the way into the season then there isn't any point discussing it further. Giroux has been invisible the entire season at even strength and its unacceptable is my point.

Your point has been the same literally every single post I have seen from you, but thanks for clarifying. You're the Vandevelde of this blog

Hextall was asked about that, in a recent scrum with reporters. To paraphrase, Hextall said that they're in the business of winning games, and they don't need to audition players to know what they bring, if they're ready for the NHL, and if they'll improve the team. Fans want to see players "get a shot" NHL GM's and coaches know when a player is ready. If they thought Leier was ready, and could improve the team, he'd be on the team. It's not fool proof, but they have a pretty good idea.

Considering they've won 10 of 23 games, perhaps they should rethink their business model?

Sure, but he (any player) needs to earn it by kicking down the AHL door and forcing his way in. "Give a kid a chance" doesn't fly with me.

16 points in 18 games, +4, playing on the pp and pk and from all reports, he's playing extremely well. What more does he need to do?

Definitely.

But CV is not the first item on the list of things that need to change. He's not even in the top 10.

In response to BiggE .......I have mixed feelings. I expected a 7-8 seed again for the playoffs and I ALWAYS root for the playoffs but part of me feels as tho missing the playoffs could be the best thing in the sense that they will try to move all of the UFAs like Streit and Schultz and call up kids like Morin and Leier to get some experience.
