Koenecny and Voracek have scored at a higher rate with Couturier, than without him. Just because Coots didn't get an assist on all their goals, doesn't mean he didn't contribute to the offense.

Konency: 8 points in 228 minutes with Couturier, 1 point in 74 minutes without

Voracek: 6 points 217 minutes with Couturier, 2 points 115 minutes without

Fair point, but I'd suggest it says more about how thin they are at center after G and Coots than it does about how well Coots has played this season. Please don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Couturier fan and I think he can be a very good 2C, I just think that he had been struggling a bit the last few weeks leading up to his injury. In fact, I had been wondering if he had perhaps been nursing another injury, because he just didn't seem to moving as well as usual nor was he as strong on the puck as he had been in the past.

Long term though, Couturier is way down the list of things I worry about when it comes to the Flyers.

I feel bad for Carson Wentz. For Crissakes Howie, get the kid some linemen and receivers! Oh, and some cornerbacks would be nice too.

On the Flyers:
All in all I'm mildly disappointed so far this season. On the plus side, I love watching how quickly Provorov and Konecny are developing and I think vets like Simmer, Gudas and Manning are having excellent seasons. Ghost I can somewhat excuse as a lot of very talented players seem to struggle in their second NHL season, I think he will come around and be fine.

On the other hand, I'm very disappointed in the play of vets like Giroux and Streit and to a lesser extent, Del Zotto, AMac and Weise. The goalies, for the most part, have been atrocious and their early season play is simply inexcusable. The rest of the squad has pretty much performed to my expectations. We rip guys like VdV, but they are what they are and it's not their fault that they aren't producing more.

When it comes to management and coaching, it's a mixed review moreso re the coach. I like Hak's system a lot, and I understand to some degree the scratches and benching of some of the "better" players. What I don't understand is why some players (Streit in particular stands out) are allowed to mess up time and time again, while others make one or 2 miscues and they're out of the lineup. I also think he needs to make better use of his timeout and be a bit more patient with some of his line combos. When it comes to the GM, I'm fully on board with rebuilding from within, I'd just like to see him try and add one experienced veteran that can play in the top 9 and can add some leadership and grit to the lineup. Losing guys like Briere and Timonen over the last couple of years has hurt, perhaps more off the ice than on, and trying to get a guy like that wouldn't be a bad idea.

It was rough game at the link. Feel bad for Wentz as well.....but on Bright side I got to try Johns pork roast... super call....oh and the airport serves at 8 am....so there's that.

I agree.

I want some more from him.

For me Schenn and Giroux need to really pick it up. And Schenn got paid to be an impact winger on this team. He's now the 4th highest paid player on the team behind Giroux, Voracek, and Streit.

How absurd is it that 23 games into the season, VDV is tied in goals scored with Giroux. That can't happen.

If it did happen on a normal G year... we'd all be in the ICU.

5 on 5 goals win a lot of games.

And more shot attempts always equals more goals because we live in an ideal world...right?

It is sad right now. Obviously other facets to the game than scoring goals, but I'm sure if I scoured the stats I wouldn't find another team in the NHL where a fringe 4th liner is tied in goals with the teams best player.
- PLindbergh31

It does more often than not on even numbered years, during full lunar cycles, when El Nino is in effect, for away games in a different time zone, when you lose more faceoffs than won and if STONE COLD SAYS SO! Shot guns two beers and (frank) it all!

I wonder how a two time Stanley Cup winning captain with a slightly larger cap hit would be handled? He's not quite there but darn close

Perhaps not but that was the case last year with Getzlaf in Anaheim for the first half of the season and not terribly uncommon when said player is much more of a playmaker than a finisher.

Oh look how hard this game is...

Boston, the team the Flyers are playing tonight, have 3 goals scored by Patrice Bergeron, their best player. He makes 7.5 times as much as Dominic Moore, but Dominic Moore has twice as many goals. Bergeron is also tied with a guy I am sure you've never heard of named Tim Schaller.

Seriously, why are you even on here?

Is VDV not good? The way you guys talk about him, hes either hockey jesus or satan..
- Guile

He's probably an NHL-AHL tweener player that folks in Flyerland like to complain about because they don't necessarily like to admit things about what is really impacting this team like "Maybe Brayden Schenn isn't as good as advertised when we acquired him" and "Claude Giroux should do more at even strength" and "Maybe our goalies have kind of sucked so far this year".

This is the only thing that sort of worries me about putting Voracek back with Giroux.

They both tend to defer more often than not.

Dominic Moore and his 787 career NHL games is a fringe 4th liner like Vandevelde? HAHA! Nice try.

That's all been mentioned I believe. But normally it gets shot down by the VdV Sucks conversation.

No I did not miss your point, I disagree with your point, and the endless moaning of why Vandevelde remains in the lineup, despite the simple reasons why he remains in.

I'm not moaning about VdV being in the lineup, I'm just trying to make the point....

oh, why bother. Arguing with you is liking playing chess with a pigeon. No matter what happens, the pigeon will just poop all over the board and declare itself the winner.
