The contracts are the cost of winning three cups before they were 27 years old of age. if the salary cap ever went up a significant amount, those two contracts wouldn't be so bad

I'm totatlly with you on this.
So tired of the idea, kane & Toews and their agent should have come in bowed to GMsStan, offering to forgo the fact they basically could have SIGNED anywhere, and low struggling teams (on ice and box office) would have come in and offered more.
Their abilities and track record are not some glossed over part of the attractiveness of both players as UFA-give up nothing but $$$ options for clubs like this.
(Just look at what teams paid this UFA buying spree...holy continue to make Ladd richer!)
Everyone seems to also ignore the fact that EVERYONE thought that CAP was gonna keep on an upward rise.
I boasted here years ago, who panties should unknotted on even the Bickell deal because I had read in severla relaible places that the Cap was going to uncrease to triple digits even dup to 125 million with the bottom end not being raised.
And whether it is Bickell, Kane or Toews, when you win, lead by example and team to win Cups, and Cap stagnates, there are two options:
Start trading the elite guys and start your rebuild.
Or PAY the elite for what they have accomplished and start scrambling to find new homes for your Buffs, Ladds, and ALL the rest.
If the Hawks hadn't won, sure, the situation would give StanBo a bit more negotiating leverage.
But don't delude yourself thinking Stevie Y in Tampa hypnotized his re-ups and their agents. That was more about the GROUP wanst to win TOGETHER and stay together to attempt to win...the taste was in their mouths they went 7 games and turned up one win short, the same way the Kings deflection off Leddy came the 'hawks a feeling & reason to continue to play hard the next playoof for each other.
Kucherov and his agents will both agree he took far less than he could have gotten playing for the Islanders...but when that deal is up and if the Lightning hasn't won a Cup, I am prety sure Kucherov will be among a group of Bolts much more ready to bolt.
It is simply ridiculous to think any teams true stars (when they are REAL elite stars, not publicity generated top players sold as elite) after winning a Cup are not going to be rewarded, especially after three CUPs.
and I know this idea (again with Brent Burns resign) are easily able of criticism.
...and that was ONE Cup.
But the idea is part of the NHL organization structures...
when there were six teams many players were tarde dbecause they wanted a few more dollars, but even then the elite stars weren't sent packing.
Subban trades s are rare occurences and if there is a chance a team can get close to a REAL difference maker both on and off the ce, they try.
Remember all that talk the hawks were tring to also convine Suter AND maybe even Parise to sign here instead of Minny?
Hindsight is easy when applied to Minny, or when taser gets a few games off.
I am just so tired of it.
I can't control Toews age, production or what you guys think you see.
But I can can understand and deal with the reality.
and spending your time at work instead of working to tell me again how it was a crappy 10.5 mil spent, well, I am tired of hearing it.
I can't change it,
you can't change it,
and the discussion in my world have little to do with the games I am watching.
You see any other teams pushing the pace like the hawks?
Most games I wacth (when Hawks are playing) the teams look slower than my regular hawk viewings.
that what stands out...not TOEWS, his contract or Stan's ineptitude.
