I haven't seen the replays but I was sitting at that end and Gudas was at the post and couldn't have done less on that Turris goal. Mason might as well have been at the center ice circle waiting for a faceoff. It was emotional deja vu. - mayorofangrytown
Gudas went for a swipe check and hit the goal post with his stick. Flyers have really been victimized quite a bit on wrap arounds this year. Once an opposing player circles the net, they seem to get all scrambled. |

Oh for heaven's sake do yourself a favor and get a cheese steak at John's Roast Pork. You'll never eat one anywhere else once you've tried theirs.

Ya know, I love Jim's steaks out of the ones I've been to. I'd try this John's one too though. |

Yea, that's going to happen on occasion, and it's the kind of play that will make a coach hesitant to play him in a 3 on 3 situation. Personally, I like creativity, and will just take what little bad comes with all the good. Don't want to stifle creativity. He's already a good player at 19, and is only going to get better. His creativity and competitiveness is top notch. - MJL
As soon as he returned to the bench, Lappy was talking to him about that play.. Probably suggesting that he not hold it as long and drop to cooter. |

Over a longer period, dominating in shot attempts and chances will turn into points. In terms of offense, we are literally just having the same argument from a year ago when Couturier had strong possession numbers but they didn't translate into points until late November.
http://www.hockey-referen.../c/coutuse01/gamelog/2016
in 15-16 thru 17 games, Couturier had 4 points, and was -7. - Feanor
You're doing God's work. But God is dead here.
Coots hasn't been playing as well as he can, and has been making some unusual turnovers and seems hesitant with the puck. I wouldn't be against swapping some players in the top 6 and making Coots more of a focal point on his line instead of a third wheel. But some people can't accept the fact slow starts happen (how's Bergeron doing?), but his underlying numbers and last season -- which to people who want him to fail, they give a Westworld "It doesn't look like anything to me" response -- show he will snap out of his funk.
No, Corsi doesn't mean goals in the past. But it means goals in the future hopefully. At the least it means scoring chances, and guess who happens to lead the team among regulars in scoring chances for/60? Shutdown Seanie. |

Yes Mason had a terrible reaction but Turris should not be able to get the puck from his side of the red line and take the lane he did to that prime scoring area. With 2 minutes left in a game that is embarrassing. Bad line change, passive defense. Just awful all around. |

I don't know of anyone that I've read in the thread today that offered criticism toward Couturier that wants him to fail, or that can't accept that slow starts happen, with maybe one possibly exception. The criticism offered today towards Couturier has been valid in my opinion. So what do we want to talk about, Couturier and his play, or the posters who have offered criticism. If the latter, it would very easy to suggest that there are a few posters who are unwilling to accept the reality of Couturier's struggles. Personally, if Couturier leads the team regulars in scoring chances per 60, then we either have a flawed stat, or some players who really aren't playing well, because a bona fide quality scoring chance from Couturier this season, to this point, has been a rarity. Couturier's corsi rating at this point, is due to being carried by his linemates, and not his play. Corsi is a team stat. |

Good post. Cooter shouldn't be much of a concern. If he's still in this funk come Christmas then its time to panic.
Goaltending/team defense and our putrid bottom-6 are far greater issues imo.
Seeing Read last night in OT didn't bother me too much. However seeing PEB basically made my blood boil. Perhaps more than when Amac would start OTs.

Couturier's CF% is much higher without Konecny and Voracek.

Who are the linemates who are carrying him to a high Corsi?

I think there are other more glaring issues to be concerned with. While Corsi is a team stat, it is still useful and tells us essentially that Couturier is no possession anchor. While he may not be racking up the points he is still providing a useful two way game and creating space/opportunity for his wingers. He needs to be better but by no means has he been the biggest issue so far this year. |

I havent seen anyone on here say anything other then Coots is having a bad year to date both offensively and defensively.
Additionally wasn't the complaint that he didnt have wingers so he never put up dynamic numbers and now its making him the focus and less of a third wheel so how does that play out by giving him wings other then Jake and TK ?
It's okay to say he has sucked so far this year. It doesnt mean he is going to suck the rest of the year. It doesnt mean by the end of the season he wont be back to what he has previously been. It just means that to this point he isnt getting it done on either side of the puck.

100% agree..Without a doubt goaltending has been the biggest issue , followed by defensive play ..

It is a stat that uses what a team does when an individual is on the ice. doesnt matter if it's a team stat or individual stats, we just need to know its flaws in order to obtain useful information from it. |

No, it wasn't. Last year his main wingers were Read, Raffl and Simmonds and he was the team's best 5 on 5 scorer. All you're doing is overreacting to a small sample size and pretending last season didn't happen.
If he was "sucking" at both ends, he would not be one of the team's best possession players, just like he was last year when he didn't play with Konecny at all and only played with Voracek sparingly. |
