Troy Stecher hammers a slap shot from the top of the circle between Ryan Miller's pads to tie the game up at 4 late in the 3rd

Don't we just need to draft well...? BB was not a high pick but seems to be the best prospect for the Canucks in over a decade.

Plus look at Tree he's not a high pick either. Stecher not even drafted. There's more ways to get there.

Yeah ... rebuilding is a multi prong approach. If you are doing everything wrong then yeah your team will suck and you will get a good chance at a high lotto pick. But then what ...? You still need to develop and build.

Success through failure after failure isn't a success but a recipe for years of painful futility. Once in a decade or so a savior player is available... Crosby, Mcdavid.... but this is the lotto NHL and only one team gets him.

Basing your rebuild on getting that one player will likely leave you in the gutter for years. It's more about the right picks then just the high picks in drafting. Then doing everything else right too from development to free agent acquisitions. Or maybe a trade where turning a Tanev into a lotto pick would be just as fortunate in getting one yourself.
