Guessing McDavid's first choice wasn't the Oilers but they are his team now. Some professional athletes and entitlement But everyone is different, we have guys going to teams thinking they will build a dynasty, like the Miami Heat or Golden State and we have Swedes like the Sedins who want to win and play their careers with the team that drafted them.

Replacing tanev with Trouba doesn't make sense frozen our side. We've got a solid young d man who's a good kid. Trading for Trouba who's by all accounts a bit of a prima donna makes no sense.

I'd rather trade Tanev for someone like Hamonic.

If Tanev is our best bargaining chip then he needs to be traded for scoring.

I've advocated the same but really wouldn't want to trade Tanev unless we are getting exactly what we want/need back.

We have a little depth on the right side but looking long term, Tanev and Gudbranson with Stecher. Larsen won't be back next season and Tryamkin is a big question mark. So if we did move Tanev, that means Stecher has to step up and Tryamkin has to be bonafide or we are paper thin again. (as our left side isn't as deep)
