No Miller
No Vrbata
No Loui
No trading picks
Jettisoning anyone over the age of 30 when torts was fired
Play the crap you have in the system until you bank enough truly gifted prospects to develop a new core group of players.

Once that is done you...

Sign an experienced goalie like Miller
Sign a one dimensional player like Vrbata to create scoring depth
Sign a top six veteran winger like Loui
Trade for a big, young #1 Dman like Grabs

- bloatedmosquito

Sounds like you wanted him to clean house from the minute he stepped in. Well he did in steps as there wasn't much to work with from below. Needed to get to his drafted players to get older to step in. Like he did add this year and last year.

Miller was signed because we had no #1. We drafted BB this first season so no harm there if you are pushing for a tank.

We had cap space and no top line players for LE or Virbata. Who would have played in their place DD, Grenier...?

Those picks were sent to fill in the middle layer of youth so lacking as there were no
draft picks to step into the roster. It got us quality youg vets in Baertchi, Sutter, Granlund and Guddy. What we gave up was not more burn less. He did lose out on Vey so that didn't work. But he said he's done filling the middle layer from picks.

He did send people out that were older maybe not as fast as liked or as high as a return as hoped for but that's how it played out. As for draft position I playing out crappy players makes no sense. It's a lotto look at how hard its to win one Canucks Lost 3 times last seaon. The prior one they drafted thier most promising goal scorer to date making the play offs.

hopefully Aquilini gives them 100% control if we are out of a playoff position in January
- CanuckDon

What would that look like...? Who are they supposed To trade for lower not impacting picks for years to come ....are there any kids we are supposed to be playing ....? It's funny we have JV and so many are saying send him down... so again what is JB to do now...? WD can do things but seem so to be narrow minded in his approach

If it doesn't involve trading Mathews for the Sedins we have nothing to read

You must be new. He blogs for the sabres first off. Just thought you might get a laugh out of his trade proposal involving the canucks. No need to be snippy bud

I did respond by the way to Garth the barf's suggestion.... JV and Hutton not happening for E. Kane....one step forward for two steps back

Maybe older players sure but not core youth... I don't know if Tanev is acceptable as too much for straight up deal cause Kane is damaged goods like Kassian so value is low.

(frank)ing idiots everywhere every expert in the hockey world said we would have a great first line. They have been pathetic. Perhaps the Sedins should get blaimed and not Benning?
- CanuckDon

Every expert in the hockey world also said Vancouver would be one of the worst teams this year, but no one here believed them, and instead labeled them Toronto loving, East Coast biased trolls with no clue. I think Vantel even said this about ESPN.

This thread knew better, the Nucks were criminally underrated. No need to worry about skill at all, just concentrate on being tougher. Anybody with a differing view (one that it starting to look accurate) was a troll. Had to be.

So it's really swings and roundabouts

When you've got the same record as the Laffs, you know own things aren't going too well.

Good morning gents.

Not much you can do when Carey decides to have a good game.

I can't speak for most but personally, I didn't think they were going to win the cup but last in the league I didn't think either.

Van added some quality parts and a few healthier players, the team should have probably improved. Not sure what's with the goal scoring drought right now. Plenty of grade A scoring chances that aren't being converted.

Right now I think a coaching change would be the best. Can't make too many trades because they don't have the depth to fill in.

17 GF, 10 Games, worst in the NHL. The only other team that's close is NJ (the fecking devils!), (18 GF), who have played 2 less games. This should be an interesting week if this trend continues.

Dave Keon is a vile piece of sh*t and an embarrassment to the Maple Leaf franchise.

Yeah. A new coach could help you guys out for sure. Personally i think the GM is the issue. Maybe it's coming from the ownership, but that LE deal was a bit of a nightmare.

A top 2 pick would do wonders for you guys. Especially if that guy can play being sheltered by the Sedin's for a year (2 if they sign a 1 year extension).

Gotta stop trading picks away and start trading away UFA's for picks. All this obviously depends one whether Benning can persuade ownership it's the right thing to do.

I like the way you think i was being serious with Scoobs about Keon by the way.

The guy retired before i was even born and 23 years before i moved to Canada.

Slander away.

Saw them against the Marlies (not live) and they looked pretty poor but mainly undisciplined, although it was first few games of the season.

Think the Marlies scored 7 PP goals in the 2 games against them.

Wrong. Many people knew they were crap but we couldn't be heard over the loud flapping sounds coming from the circle jerk gang.

Big difference in franchises. Leafs have been the second worst franchise for the last decade. You should have two complete NHL teams with all the high draft picks .

Even after 10 years of sucking your team will still be around the bottom this year.

Canucks are newbies to this. They will figure it out.

To be fair it's not like Utica has been given many good prospects to use ...vans best prospects are either in the nhl or junior aside from demko ....shink is a good ahler traded for a guy who was NHL ready

I thought green was supposed to be a hot commodity as a potential NHL coach soon ?

The leafs having sooooo much talent in the pool they should try to make 2 Toronto teams so they can play in the cup final ...sounds like an idea from Damien Cox

Agreed. As long an the Canucks take the step to actually do something about it. I'm skeptical the organization will, but it's what they have to do.

Many here defended the "you don't need high picks to become good" position or "you can become good without picking top 3".

Unfortunately, in today's NHL, that's not the case.

I think working in Vancouver's favour (assuming they started last year) they can get a really good head start on the rest of the West as it seems to be on the decline somewhat
