What is your definition of long shot? and what is your definition of "making it" ?
Scott Cullen IMO easily has the best breakdown of what types of players have come from which picks over a 20 year period (1990-2009).
It's a bit of a long read and isn't straight forward but worth reading.

I have no claim to either. I don't judge the likelihood of a prospect making it out of junior because it is hit or miss. 3 years after he was drafted, NO ONE would have considered Gaunce a long shot, or a fringe 4th liner. No one would have expected Datsyuk or Hansen to be much of anything from being 6/7 round picks respectively. I only see what is offered on the weekly prospect report and I can't make judgements off that. |

That would be awesome.
I just mean as a more reasonable goal, if you could have someone that gave us what Sami did and remain healthy we'd have one hell of a Dman. |

Meh, I've been around a long time, I'm a fan because this is my local team and that's why I support them. I don't cheer only because they win, or bail when they lose. Things will get better again, it's just gonna take some time. - Pacificgem
I'd say this is true for most of the posters on here. |

YouTube clips I'm already into for next years prospects. If you had the draft at 19 it would be much less of a crap shoot. |

When I read the teams power rankings today I was not surprised about Horvat as number 1.
I was shocked to see Eriksson at last .
Sedins at 13 was surprising and disturbing |

I really like Biega and hope they can figure out a way to get him in Utica. That team needs a solid Dman and another leader.
“I’m genuinely happy for [Stecher] and last year when guys from Utica got their opportunities. Those are guys I played with and went to a Calder Cup with, so it’s great to see them get rewarded. You spend your career chasing the NHL carrot and finally guys get rewarded. I’m happy for those guys. I’m old enough to understand you can’t worry about the things you can’t control. Your head will go spinning and it’s just not worth it.” |

I read that as well, but I'm not a big fan of their rankings or that blog in general. I expect more from the Sedin's and Eriksson but I'm also not worried about them. |

This is true, but I think the 4-7 round datsyuk type gems will become more and more rare as the years go on. Though iI hink that rounds 5-7 should all be high risk high reward type players. No sense trying to get a safe player in rounds where safe = AHL. |

With a hard salary cap teams now have more money to spend on scouting etc. |

That's not true. I read on here that his career was over because he started on the fourth line. I believe it may have even been a season ticketholder. |

That's Halak Trouba Fowler going there. I sure hope they don't give away any of their future HHOF prospects for them |

Try and spin it however you want. This team needs Horvat as an offensive leader and that includes giving him some good line mates. WD realized his mistake, it's okay you don't need to continue defending him. |
