I follow the prospects closely and this is just a guess on my part, but I'd say, Juolevi, Boeser, Demko, Tryamkin, Brisebois and Lockwood are the only kids that have a realistic chance to play for the team. Some of the others, late rounders, may surprise, but I seriously doubt it.

Very impressive but don't forget he was passed over in his first chance of being drafted. Much like Neal last year.

I still think Guadette might end up being Benning's best value bet and is our best C prospect.

Agreed, Gaudette is the one prospect I am most intrigued by. Put up good numbers in a very tough H-East as a freshman and is already off to a good start this year

I was referring to kids Benning has drafted, but yes, Stecher has looked good, the others, a real long-shot at best.

He was in my original list of kids with an actual possibility of making it.

Skating is poor. If he makes it at all, he'll be a Gaunce type player. And I think Gaunce is easily a fringe NHL'er. If I had to predict, he never amounts to anything at the NHL level.

Yup, I think his 5 g 5a in 7games is more impressive than Boeser 6g 6a in 7 games with ND.

WAY too early to tell.

Writing off a prospect or saying he is a longshot after his draft + 1 or draft + 20 games at junior is a bit dramatic.

I agree although I think it will be impressive even if he can get to Gaunce's level, but I'm also a big fan of Gaunce.

Every single player drafted outside of the 1st round is a longshot.

I don't think it's dramatic at all, I think it's just realistic to pass judgement on a kid that was a tremendous long-shot the day he was picked. As a general statement. Historically there's data there on kids like this.

if we are going on being realistic, anything out of the 3rd round and beyond is a long shot then?

I'd say second round if you want my honest opinion. Every once and awhile you catch lightning in a bottle though, just not very often.

What is your definition of long shot? and what is your definition of "making it" ?

Scott Cullen IMO easily has the best breakdown of what types of players have come from which picks over a 20 year period (1990-2009).

It's a bit of a long read and isn't straight forward but worth reading.

Meh, I've been around a long time, I'm a fan because this is my local team and that's why I support them. I don't cheer only because they win, or bail when they lose. Things will get better again, it's just gonna take some time.
