Brett Connolly just popped one, man the Capitals make other teams chase the game a lot....speed and skill are not in short supply! I admire what George McPhee built there. - LeftCoaster
They are an elite team. It's there window and they need to win more then a President's Trophy .... that extra winning in the playoffs ingredient is a test not yet passed .... and it seems the leadership of the team may not have it if you stack them up to the Pens....what do you see...?
No.....the poster I was responding to....stated........Horvat had 4 goals in 8 games......and I just pointed out.............that..............that wasn't good enough. - A_SteamingLombardi
No they haven't, yet they beat us in the playoffs amid their rebuild. Hell, we've barely begun. For every young piece we have, they have a better one. - golfingsince
Dragon will tell you that was WD's fault ....
Though they have been at the rebuild for a while .... so the young pieces do look nice over there .... still we took a couple youngish ones away in Baertchi and now Granlund showing more promise could it even out with some of the filler JB has added with these trades including Guddy and Sutty...?
Plus would Stecher and Tree tip it more for Canucks if they develop right ...? Also Hutton he has game too with more growth on the rise.
Well it's something and Bo, JV plus BB and OJ have potential there to go toe to toe with their group....
But I do like their centers and JG is a game breaker ....
Substantially younger ...hmm...saw some stat that average age of teams relatively close.? Or are you saying their top players are...?
Really?
Edler 30, LE 31, Twins 36, Hansen 30
Do you want to take a look at the core pieces on the Flames?
We are substantially older - golfingsince
Okay so you are saying top players....
The stat had Canucks getting younger next year with Miller and Burrows out from 28. Something to 27. Something I believe as average age and Flaems were around that too just point something less cause of the Sendins, Le and Edler

Does it really matter what age the role players are? They are the easiest to find and to draft and develop.
Hell, even a decent starting goalie can be found FA most years.

Correct .... I wasn't disagreeing with you .... why Pointed out in bold as point of clarity.
But do we not have a layer of players developing now to take over these top roles?
So that would change that reality.... somewhat.
Of course we are missing top 1lC .... Bo may develop that like Hank did as when he was coming up his label was 2/3 line center .... so you never know .... plus JB may squeeze one out of college or the draft like BB.... sooner then later .... but yeah that's a problem we have now ... some holes and question marks.

The problem we have is that we have holes now and more to come. Even with a good draft where we grab say a top line winger, top four future D and a Hansen type (which should be considered an excellent draft) they are likely a few years away and by then we'll have even more holes to plug.
I'm personally targeting 2020 as a year for a return to relevancy.

That might be likely. But isn't that why JB made his trade and UFA deals and trying to add players like Rodin and Stecher to fill these holes? We don't know if it will work but they are trying to do that as drafting is a slow process like you point out.
But based on above let's identify what the holes are..? 1LC & 1LLW... D1.... what else?
