Sure... but can't hit what you can't catch and this league is getting faster not tougher Scot Stevens Like....

Also the drafting will fall short on expectation if everyone is thinking there are saviors out there like McDavid, Mathews or Laine.... just not realistic.... with this lotto system to picking higher then 4/5 is not easy.... so we'll get talent that needs years of development and support ... which means needing vets, waiver pick ups and UFA's.

They were a skilled team that didn't back down. Winning does that for you.

Yes but they had a nastiness to them...

Kesler
Burrows
Bieksa
Torres
Lapierre
Rome
and to a lesser extent Alberts.

Yes, but the question is 'how much time?'

Is it 4-5 years?
Is it 8-10 years?

Can a management team quicken the pace with shrewd dealings and quality drafting?

- bloatedmosquito

How much time.....it takes as long as it takes, there are no set rules here! When you draft the right guys, in a very inexact science, you draft the right guys.

You need bullets to make deals, the Canucks have very few, but good asset management would also go a long ways!

I know, I wish they would, but they're still of the belief they can win. Come January they may be singing a different tune.

Canucks have the worst record in the league for multiple shots per game.

We average 2.5.
Mid talent teams average 6to 7 times a game
Good teams average 9 times.

We don't drive the net. We lose battles and we get out worked in our own zone.

We have teams that come in like LA and Chicago that elbow Hank and Danny over the years and no one responds.

We had one guy who is 5'11 last year fight our majority of fights.

We are a cycle team that plays to the outside.

What is to like about any of this info. We need to be tougher than this . We have to have players strong enough to battle in front.

Sometimes people can't differentiate between playing physically and fighting, you can have a physical team that plays hard but doesn't fight. The old days of Detroit vs Colorado or Edmonton vs Calgary are gone.

Crystal ball 🔮 please give us the answer.... no one knows and neither did the clubs who lucked out on getting saviors who at some point burn out if not supported right cause pushing the higher echelons comes down to luck and timing

You play with what you've got! Their best players are 36 and weren't fast to begin with. No one else except Horvat and Virtanen are big enough, fast enough or skilled enough to drive to the net.

They were a team that could skate, get in on the forecheck and lay the body. They didn't (for the most part) back down in the ensuing scrums. The team got to where they were on the strength of special teams.

They were not a big, tough, rough and tumble team.

Philipp Grubauer get the start in net for Washington. For the Canucks, Megna's out, Zalewski's in and Gaunce will probably play.

Yes look at them now, exactly the same position they were in last year, it's a long year anything can happen, ala Price going down with another season ending injury

They weren't a bad team, they just lost their best player. January 1/16 they were 22-18 with 116 goals for 99 against after 40 games.

I seen Sutter drive the net this year.

I agree with most of this . There is a lot of bad luggage this team carries. I still can't figure out how Burrows beats out Lebate in training camp or how Larssen beat out Stecher.

Makita made a very good comment the other day, Granlund and Baertschi have proved nothing. I agree .

We are plugging in Biega to forward ? How desperate is that?

I don't get the fear of trading away players.

We know what Tanev brings , can we not find an upgrade? Same with Edler can we not upgrade?

Yeah we can upgrade, if we throw in a good prospect or a high draft pick.

I think Weber \ Subban has a lot more than just getting Price back. Montoya has played lights out.

Radulov signing also huge and so is the Shaw trade.

Do you think the Jets would trade Trouba for Hansen and Tanev? It was rumoured earlier this year Trouba for Hamonic ( Tanev compatible )

Secondly would this be considered an upgrade

A. Probably not. They want a player, draft pick, and prospect from what I remember.

B. More upside, better offensively, different skill set. In our zone....no. Also, I think Trouba would run for money when he becomes UFA.

Just for the record I still have trust in this team

I think Canucks still have 5 good Dmen with Stecher in the line up but always looking to improve.

I think it is a mistake to pass om McIlrath . For a team that is thin on depth he could have replaced Biega while Biega goes down to assist the Comets. I still think it was a freebie to look at.

I am disappointed in Sven , you just can't have slow starts every year.

Jake needs to get his head straight.

Eriksson , I am speechless now but don't think it will last all year. I hope when he gets his first it will change the team ( 30 goals last year) . I hope he isn't Vrbata 2015
