Last night was the first time thoughts crossed my mind that this team may seriously consider moving Giroux at the deadline. - MBFlyerfan
There's just no way Hextall is thinking of forcing his 1C and captain out of town. |

He may have, he may have not. Unless someone who was in the room discloses what he voiced, you can't know for sure. Anyone who says otherwise is just blind guessing. - jmatchett383

I don't know if we are if we keep him.
In a couple years Simmonds is going to need an extension and he is on a prime deal right now for what he brings.
Also you'll have some younger guys like Provorov and Konecny needing deals.
I think we will see a guy go that people are surprised about. - J35Bacher

You keep saying this but there is no proof either way. So why argue it? - dragonoffrost
Simple, because posters are speculating that Hextall was against the move. |

I agree completely, and that's really my point, although I didn't word that as well as you did to get that point across. We don't know. - MJL
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I put it out there because I've been inferring for a while that it's more likely Hextall was on board than against.
I don't think there's any reason to see it that way. I think Holmgren felt he was making his club better and leaving it in a better position by getting an NHL defenseman under contract. If Hextall did dissent, there's no doubt in my mind he wanted that information kept strictly in the GM's office. We know tight he can be with internal information like that. |

I agree, the GM has final say, but I disagree that it's overstated on how much influence an assistant GM has. I think the assistant GM, scouts, and player personnel people have a big influence on the GM's decisions. - MJL
Of all the arguments in here, this might be the dumbest |

Simmonds will be a 31 year old winger. He's much more likely to be traded than the guy with the NMC. |

Streit's deal coming off the books,, maybe Weise gets claimed by LV, Gordon is expendable. There will be options |

It's not wrong to speculate, is it? You can speculate differently if you want, but I don't think anyone has stated factually that Hextall was 100% against (or for ) it. |

I love his game. But man he could be the ultimate trade chip with the contract he is on and his age.
I think there would be a lot of teams interested in him. |

Let me put it this way.
If we trade Giroux the only realistic option is a full scale rebuild. Which means all of the time and resources put into retooling the current roster was pretty much for nothing. It just doesn't make sense right now. Especially after signing G and Jake to those deals. |

Of course they do. The GM makes, and owns, the final decision, but to think that his staff doesn't influence the decision is naive. |
