does fantasy sports count? or putting together a rec team? - nastyflyergirl
Only if your rec team likes slightly overpaying for top-4 defenders. |

Last night was the first time thoughts crossed my mind that this team may seriously consider moving Giroux at the deadline.
I know it is a bit out there thinking.....
But in my opinion this team is still a few years away from being a serious contender. The issue of course is that is a giant contract for any team to take on.
Make no mistake I still think he is a great player, but by the time this team is ready, he may not be.
Flame away.

Amac was god awful last night. I personally want to see Ghost with a steady defensive dman. Amac isn't it. I was encouraged after his strong pre-season but my god its been hard to take. I keep telling myself get to 40 games so they can protect Manning and expose Amac, not that he will be taken. More so just to they can protect Manning who has played well on a very modest contract.
Simmonds is either very good or very bad in my opinion. never seems to have a middle ground. He has 5 goals and 2 assists in 8 games and really hasn't gotten his game on track yet so in a way that is encouraging - nastyflyergirl
I was also hopeful they could at least give themselves the option of protecting Manning but I'm not sure AMac will get 28 more games with many more performances like last night.
Simmonds did seem out of sync just about every shift last night. With Schenn getting back on track last night, I think it's time to re-unite that top line. |

Giroux had multiple grade A scoring chances last night. Domingue was good when he had to be.
Also I doubt you get full value for Giroux. Someone said a few weeks ago that the Spezza trade would be a good comparable and Ottawa got shafted on that deal |

I found it odd how Giroux wasn't in our Get To Work promo video. Trade implications? |

He may have voiced an opinion and been overruled by his boss. My point was that he may have not felt that signing or not signing AMac wasn't a big enough issue to make a stand on. It does not mean that he was fully in favor of the deal - BiggE
He may have also been fully on board with the deal. |

You never really get equal value.
Look at the Nash deal. Seguin deal. I mean who got the best player in those deals?
I would maybe take less players in a deal if it mean getting better value. |

He may have, he may have not. Unless someone who was in the room discloses what he voiced, you can't know for sure. Anyone who says otherwise is just blind guessing. |

If we trade Giroux we are not contending for at least another 3-4 years. |

Taking Giroux out the equation would leave a pretty huge void. Top line center, Elite Power play performer not to mention his leadership. Those aren't likely to be replaced over the next few seasons. I'd rather be battling for a playoff spot and getting the young players winning experience rather than the return and future salary cap relief moving Giroux would bring. |

Agreed. We don't have anyone in the pipeline who can take that #1C spot in that time frame. |

I don't know if we are if we keep him.
In a couple years Simmonds is going to need an extension and he is on a prime deal right now for what he brings.
Also you'll have some younger guys like Provorov and Konecny needing deals.
I think we will see a guy go that people are surprised about. |

I don't think it's a given he was in favor of the deal, either. Until Hextall says something on the matter, it's purely 110% conjecture that he was for or against that signing. - BulliesPhan87
I agree completely, and that's really my point, although I didn't word that as well as you did to get that point across. We don't know. |

I really did not like the Top 6 last night. I think it needs to be restored to it's previous state, mixing it up was a knee jerk that didn't produce any results in the first place. The power play and shoot out won the game in Buffalo. AMAC sure as hell used up whatever leash he had left last night.

I think its overstated on how much influence an assistant GM has over the GM. I have no idea if Hexy was for or against the re-signing of AMAC and I'm sure the GM listens to advice from his personnel staff but at the end of the day the GM has the final say and will do what he thinks is best whether others agree or not - nastyflyergirl
I agree, the GM has final say, but I disagree that it's overstated on how much influence an assistant GM has. I think the assistant GM, scouts, and player personnel people have a big influence on the GM's decisions. |
