I can't remember how old I was when the Preds, Wild, Jackets and whoever the other team was entered the league but I feel exactly the same. I see an opportunity an advantage for the Flyers this coming summer. We lose older players at the right time this summer and I feel like whoever we lose at the draft will be someone we can shrug off. I like Raffl, I don't love him. I like Read, I don't love him. I like Weise so far but I don't love him. Even if they take Laughton, I'll be fine. I think once he's activated from LTIR, I think he's getting sent down. Even if he isn't, it's sad we expect him to be a 4th player. The players we need protected will get protected. - SuperSchennBros
I see the opportunity too. And it's nice knowing that our team is arguably one of the better teams ready / shaped for the expansion draft. One less headache for us all. And if any of those players are taken, we have guys like Leier, NAK, Lindblom knocking on the door which is even more exciting |

They actually used a real bat and character replicas/prosthetics. Made one for every character who was kneeling.

Giroux is -6 and Toews is +2. Clearly one is actually helping his team win. Points aren't everything after all. - Mononoke
Were I starting a team today and I had to choose between those two as my first pick I'd have a really hard time choosing. |

Whoever said that Giroux needs to stop playing so much on the perimeter is spot-on. Tbf, Giroux is one of the best perimeter players in the NHL with passing skills to embarrass anyone. On the PP that's fine, that's his role, but you almost never see him go to the net for redirects or quick one touch shots or just finding chances in the slot at ES. He gets his nose dirty along the boards, so it's not an unwillingness and we know he's tough as nails. But how often do you really see Giroux himself in high scoring chance areas? He's feeding the puck there, but rarely goes there himself. He could stand to drive the middle more with and without the puck. The Old Adventures of New Matt Read needs to show Giroux the way. |

So what is the protection rules to the draft? I heard 7 forwards, 3 Defense and 1 goalie? Plus one season players and prospects are safe? |

Why is the Carnival so early this year? I'm out of the loop in the desert.
Home opener of the AHL team here in Tucson tonight. I'm volunteering with the AHL to do off ice stuff. Goal judge tonight. Looking forward to it. We will see if this fickle ass town will care about anything other than college football/basketball. |

Due to schedule issues caused by WCoH. Later season start = crunched schedule = no viable dates in February |

I'm not sure how this invalidates what others have said though, Bill. If your boss gives you a project to work on, you're going to work on it, personal opinions aside. I'm sure he did work on negotiations, as part of his job, but that doesn't prove or disprove that he was gung-ho about it. I think that Hextall deserves some blame for that contract, and his total absolving is more wishful thinking. But it's such a weird contract that flies in the face of everything he has done at GM. He hasn't made panic signings, he's been incredibly deliberate and patient, he's recognized the rebuild, it took him all of 1 year to just send AMac down to the AHL. It's just so unlike Hextall in his tenure as GM. And it was so very very much like Holmgren to sign a FA (to be) to a bloated contract to contend NOW, ignoring any warning signs.
There were articles at the time of Hextall's promotion saying Homer had all intentions of continuing on as GM, but Mr. Snider convinced him to take on his current role due to rumors of Hextall being hired as GM elsewhere, like Washington. For all we know, had everything gone to plan, Hextall may not have been GM for another couple years. The timeline got accelerated. - Mononoke
This is a bad comparison. Being an assistant GM is about giving your opinions, and giving that input to the GM, in player evaluations. It's not complete this task whether you like it or not, that one may encounter in a different line of work.

No, actually it's a good comparison. Hextall wasn't a lackey -- and their relationship was assuredly friendly, not authoritative -- but he still had a boss. And I'm sure he voiced his opinion. But if the boss overrides you ( which we don't know happened), Hextall still has to help Homer get the best deal he can, disagree with it or not. In the end, it absolutely is his job to help complete the task. He can't disagree and then take a vacation for a couple weeks. |

It's a lousy comparison, and it's really built on the tired narrative that Holmgren sucked as a GM, and the deal was against Hextall's wishes. I think the input of subordinates is more of a factor than many want to admit. It's also possible that Hextall was the driving force behind the entire deal. We don't know.
