Well the best British defenseman might be better than a certain Swiss?

What I said was that off-base with what you all have been watching?
- Pixote Andolini

A lot of it, yes.

Start with Ghost. Ghost is 2nd on the team in shots. Has struggled defensively primarily (IMO) because he has been trying to do TOO much with the puck. He is taking too many chances, trying to make moves and rush the puck. Giroux will always be a playmaker. He will never be a guy who drives the net. However, he is third among forwards in SOG. They will start going for him. His biggest problem so far has been gap issues. Getting stuck too low and stuff like that. He will always be his best when moving the puck.

Simmonds was not out hustled or out muscled last night. Instead he was out of control. He took a couple of hits, but that happens from time to time. There were a couple of plays where he straight up beat Weber in board battles.

The Couts line was the topping on the cake. The line has been borderline dominant. He has 3 goals and an assist in 6 games. Could have had a few more. They are amazing at possessing the puck. He ABSOLUTELY has enough talent to be with those two. Look at what the line has done so far as proof.

Is tonight a must win?

No, the Flyers don't need these two points. Later on, there are much more attractive points to be had.

So the leaders in ice time among the D last night, on the road against a good team, were the 2 kids and Manning. Pretty much says all ya need to know about Schultz, Streit, and AMac.
- BiggE

Streit had 19:28 in ES ice time, 2nd most on the team.

I agreed with everything you said, except about Couturier being able to keep up. Although I don't think he had a great game last night.

The hardest and toughest ice time there is, is PK ice time. MacDonald led all Flyers in PK ice time, with 4:03. Next closest was Provorov with 3:15.

Yeah there was a bit of hyperbole in that statement for sure.

I was just looking at the ice time per game stats and AMac is at 3:05 while Provorov is at 3:04 on the PK. They definitely aren't sheltering the kid there.

No they're not. Kid is already pretty good at 19. He's going to be a flat out stud.

Next time he has to defend a 2-on-1, I want him to just skate to the inside of the player without the puck and tie his stick up and make it a 1-on-1 for the shooter with the goalie on an angle. Because every other 2-on-1 with him becomes a cross-ice slam-dunk for the other team. I know odd-man rushes are hard to defend, but every now and then, you should be able to stop one.

The kid is the best penalty killer on D on this team. JFC, Morin can't get here soon enough

I think Konecny's style of play leans itself towards getting hit like that. I don't really see targeting, but there is no question he has taken a few bigguns

I hope in a few years he won't need as many pain pills as Mike Richards

Well that too, but it will be nice to have a Dman with good wheels and the wingspan of pterodactyl on the PK

I think he is correct about Giroux playing on the perimeter at ES. He hasn't had very many good scoring chances, and his shots have been for the most part very low percentage. That line as a whole, has not been very good the last couple of games. I agree that Gostisbehere has been struggling at both ends, with the exception of the Carolina game. He can play much better. Simmonds was a mess last night, and just made poor plays and poor decisions.

He is going to engulf a few unsuspecting forwards when they come at him and we will all laugh.

Would Hakstol consider dressing and playing 7 defensemen? Has he done that before? I don't think we want/need Streit taking that much ES TOI, do we?

I can't stand that 7th defenseman strategy. IMO the healthier team has 4 units that can roll throughout the game keeping everyone fresh for the most part - assuming it's not one of those 10-15 PP whistled games.

Wow our friends in Buffalo seem to not be too thrilled with their team right now.
