But last night you knew that he was playing too conservative because of coaching
- Giroux_Is_God

He's played better and more aggressive the last 2 games after a sloppy start in his own right, but his partner will not let go of his death grip on him. It's hard to be aggressive when you're shackled to one of the most passive d men in the NHL.

The best way I can explain Streit is this. He's offensively gifted from the blue line and he wears a letter on his left chest. I didn't say this in my explanation and keep in mind that I had nightmares of the Kane goal in the first minute in Chicago. Regardless of who started the mistake, Streit was a hologram. Kane went through him like nobody was there for the wrap around. With this said I don't think we have an objective coach hints why Vandevelde is on the roster at all. I think Vandevelde brings nothing. Streit brings something. A lot has been made of the leadership in the past three years, which is why I think Streit is still here. I would have traded him last summer.
- SuperSchennBros

Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly, but if you're stating that Hakstol is not objective because he has Vandevelde on the team and playing, I would disagree.

You've quoted yourself 3 straight times, and it wasn't even coherent. It's time to give it a rest and let the grown-ups talk about Katy Perry vs Taylor Swift.

I think Mac was as bad as bad gets last night alone.
- SuperSchennBros

I disagree, and this talk that MacDonald is hindering Gostisbehere, is complete and utter nonsense. Gostisbehere has been hindering himself. Hakstol stated that Gostisbehere played a real good game with the puck against Carolina. That's all the proof that is needed.

At least Coots is speculatively in.

Schultz out for Gudas. Gudas paired with Streit. The Mac-Ghost pairing will just not die. I'm sorry, but there's no justification for AMac being in still. He's been bad by the eye test alone.

I kinda want to see Leier-G-Simmer if Schenn continues to struggle

That's a little too far, I think. But G-Leier were a dynamite duo killing penalties in the preseason. Leier also finished as the best possession player in every single game he played in during preseason. He's fast and has good 2-way instincts. I like him.

To me this is playoff Ghost from last year. Teams didnt wake up to the fact he was a threat until later last season. He will have to realise he now gets extra attention, just like all the better players do. He either excels or falters.

To me the kid is playing too conservative. Whether thats because of linemates who knows.

- flyer_nutter

Last night his partner got burned a couple times and you could see him down shift his game. He is way too conservative right now. He fully activated against the Canes because we had the lead. We can't wait for that. He needs to bring his game when the puck drops.

I can't say for sure why he's not more aggressive but it needs to happen.

Leier is an excellent PKer too, so he can do that. Lyubimov is an excellent PKer, so he can do that. Both are better than VDV at every facet of the game. All you can do is chuckle and punch yourself in the Richard.

Well the point is, I'm not expecting Radko Gudas to step in and be the answer to all our problems. I'm expecting the same rust most of our team has had so far. Streit has to be better. Giroux isn't expecting leading the charge. Schenn doesn't look like the same guy I saw in camp. I expect all of these to get better and a slow start by Gudas wouldn't shock me.
- SuperSchennBros

I agree with all the points you have made about Gudas and the team as a whole with certain players needing to wipe some rust off. But I am not all that worried (yet). Expecting Gudas to come in and be in his form towards the end of last season is an easy route that leads to disappointment.

It's hard to be aggressive when you have to play 60%+ of the game in your own zone often due to no fault of your own. It's like watching Jake with PEB and VDV last season and wondering why he wasn't lighting it up.

He's still being aggressive, but the league has adjusted, and he's not getting as much room, and they are checking him tight. That is what is happening. Gostisbehere's struggles being blamed on MacDonald, is just flat out absurd. What's happening now, is not unexpected. Gostisbehere needs to adjust his game, and find ways to look for openings. A defense partner just doesn't have as much influence on a players game, to account for the struggles. Teams are paying close attention to him, and he needs to improve. Part of the growing process of a 2nd year defenseman. He got on a roll last year right out of the gate, and we got spoiled, looking for the same immediate impact.

Gostisbehere has been the weak link defensively on the pairing. Last year, Voracek's struggles were all on him.

I had a friend in town last night from out of state. We were both bemoaning the time we were going to have to invest watching the players Hextall acquired over the last three summers while he tried to navigate cap issues and keep the team afloat.

I'm ready to shed those guys but apparently they don't believe that the kids are all ready yet. Free agency isn't what it used to be and trades are more difficult. The waiting is tough.
