I think there was one last season. Can't remember who it was, though. But yeah, 99.9% never materialize. - T-Train
I think the one you're referring to is the Seth Jones-Ryan Johansen trade. He claimed to have broken it but many fans on other hockey sites proved that wasn't the case. It had been broken on Twitter way before Ek broke it and was a proven with timestamps. He still took credit for it though. Now THAT is predictable! |

Hmmm...maybe, I can't remember. Seems like it was a lesser deal. Maybe even just a FA signing. Who knows. But what I do know is that an EK rumor is the kiss of death for that supposed rumor. |

Matt Murray is coming back soon and Pittsburgh aren't interested in trading him. First, because he's the team future in the net. Second ,because they want to avoid the problem LA is having right now.
LA doesn't want Fleury's cap hit on their books, and they don't want to move players in order to liberate that much cap space.
Conclusion, Mike Condon is the guy LA has in mind if they are talking to Pittsburgh.

Will never happen.
Kings have little cap room and Fluery is a long term contract.
Now if you could convince them to take Miller out of Vancouver(50% retained) thats something possible.... At least I hope as a Canucks fan.

You want Markstrom as your starter? |

This would be an ideal scenario, the problem is that the Kings dont have much cap space now and wont have much when Quick gets back |

What are they going to do with Jarry? Come expansion if they were to acquire Fleury he has an NMC & would have to be protected & Quick doen't & would have to be exposed. This rumor makes no sense. I guess LA could try to trade out the problem before expansion. |

This almost ranks up there with the Malkin trade rumors. Not quite but almost.
Like those Malkin rumors, this trade does not make sense from either end. From LA's standpoint, they already have a #1 and cannot take on two #1 goalie contracts. Their best bet is to get a Mike Condon or similar and play really solid defense in front of him, trying to make things as easy as possible for him.
From the Pens' standpoint, while Matt Murray has passed the ultimate test, he still only has 20-some NHL games under his belt. He needs a lot more development and in my opinion, should not be made the starter yet. Ideally there should be a 60/40 split (60% Fleury/40% Murray) this season, to develop Murray over a full regular season.
The Pens should not entertain any trade offers on Fleury and keep him into the expansion draft, at the risk of losing him. If they can keep him through it then try to go for a 50/50 split with Murray next season. Only in the 2018-19 season should the Pens consider trading him. |

If they keep him through the expansion draft, they have to protect him (NMC) and they will lose Murray. |

I think the only way LA goes after Fleury is if Pitt eats some salary and somehow they have a wink wink deal with LV that they would take Fleury in the expansion draft. Otherwise LA wouldn't wanna be stuck with Fleury and Quicks contracts.
Miller makes total sense cause he is on an expiring contract. Vancouver could eat some of it. Maybe almost half.
However, despite what most Canuck fans want (top draft pick), they are still trying to make the playoffs. Thats the message anyway given to the players. Trading your 1A away at the beginning of the year sends the wrong message to your players. Thus, I don't think it will happen.
This is a kind of trade that would happen in February if the Canucks were sliding out of contention.
Bad timing I think.. |

I wanted to check if they even had to protect Murray. Isn't 2 years or less exempt? |
