Much like last night, not much ES flow for the Flyers (besides the 1st line). So much PKing right off the bat is always bad news for that.
Flyers need to start getting it going. PP should help. |

From a basic stat standpoint, bring the same offense.
Schenn played 72 games last season, 16 total points and minus 2 rating.
Gudas played 76 games, 14 points, with a minus 3 rating.
Both have the same career high of 22 in their career. Of the two, Schenn has done it twice with a historically bad team.
I'm not denying Gudas might be the better player but if he's an offensive defenseman, he's not very good at it. As for overall play, that's a different debate. At the end of day, Schenn has a lot to work on but at least colors within the lines of physicality. Tonight Schenn plays, Gudas does not. - SuperSchennBros
Some are calling him an offensive defenseman because he shoots the puck a fair amount. I don't think that's a correct way of looking at Gudas as a defenseman. He's a stay at home physical defender, who shoots the puck every chance he gets. You can't be considered an offensive defenseman if you don't generate a lot of points, and don't play on the PP.

Kind of hard to get that flowing when ES ice time is limited. Mark Streit for example only played 1:43 of ES ice time. Provorov only 1:40. The Couturier line about 2:25 at ES.

He's a play driving, shot generating d man. No one expects him to put up many points. But he's certainly no "shutdown" guy who is great in his own zone either. In sustained defensive zone play, he can be very sloppy. But he hits, which = good defense, I guess.
Gudas really makes no sense from any standpoint statistical or visual. He's just a Gudas-type d man. |

BS. I only said he's more offensive than defensive, from a traditional view of both. I never said he was an "offensive d man." |

No, it's not BS. In conversations where Gudas has been the topic, and called a defensive defenseman, you specifically called him an offensive defenseman. More than once.

Again, BS. Saying he isn't a defensive d man isn't calling him Keith Yandle. You're just making things up. Intermission time is boring time for you. Need to start an argument to kill time, I guess. |

From watching him, I feel like his stats are great because he makes quick, simple decisions... whether it's putting pucks on net quickly, or making that first 15-foot pass after a retrieval quickly, or getting over quickly to seal off the boards. That stuff is probably from him coming up in the Czech system and it all translates into possession+.
He's not your typical high and hard off the glass, lob it out of the zone kind of plug. |
