That's the only thing that nags at me about this team. Size isn't as big of a deal as it used to be, but it's hard to get used to seeing teams outmuscle them down low, on the wall

The league's changed, but I wouldn't mind a guy like Dwight King on the Flyers, that's for sure

- AllInForFlyers

I was told the Flyers cannot have size/physicality if they want to be skilled.

We want a wussy machine like squad that don't engage in no after the whistle stuff.

Flyers definitely looked liked a wussy machine whipping the Kings ass, who are one of the biggest and strongest teams in the league.

And more of an ideal #4 at that on a Cup-caliber blueline.
- bmeltzer

See, I'm just not sure why that has to be the case, Bill. He does exceedingly well here in the tough top pair minutes....why does that make it a foregone conclusion he's just a #4 on a Cup team? I look at it simply as: does he do the job of a top pair guy and, more importantly, do it well? If both are true, not sure why he's being slighted. It has shades of people calling Couturier a #3C on a "Cup-caliber" team or Mason not being a "Cup-caliber" goalie because of things like reputation or a mythical "Cup-caliber" player that exists, that if we could only just find.

Are we saying MDZ isn't as good or better than all of Braun, Martin, Dumoulin, Daley, Maata -- last year's Cup qualifying #3 and #4 d men (Dumoulin even being arguably their #2)....? Besides, having 1 top guy or 1 top pair has become a bit blasé. You really need multiple (relatively) interchangeable pairings.

My dream is that by 18-19, we see something like:

Provorov-MDZ
Morin-Ghost
Sanheim-Myers

I think that's why they got Weise. A full strength lineup should only have a few small guys - G, Konecny, Read/Cousins.

I think you're confusing the point that Del Zotto is probably the top defenseman on the team currently, rather than Del Zotto being in fact a top pair guy. In the big picture, I see Del Zotto as a 2nd pair defenseman, who could play on a top pair in support of a true top #1 defenseman.
- MJL

I'm impressed with how Del Zotto turned his game around last season. He might have even sacrificed points for defense prior to his injury. Do I think he makes or breaks team's success. Nope. I haven't entirely bought into him being the team's best defender yet. Not with Provorov coming in. Not with the growing pains he's experienced to the point of last season. With this said, he's very good and he's probably gonna leverage this season the last to get as much as he can in his next deal, which concerns me a little.
