You can see the frustration in Johnnys twitter post. This thing has been a big distraction up until now, hopefully it doesn't continue to be. It was a solid compromise. I just hope Johnny can move forward and be positive, he is the catalyst of this team. Excited for the season to start!! GO FLAMES!! |

It is no Power Rangers reboot, but could be a heartwarming Christmas movie. |

Have a strong feeling Johnny just said "F- You" to his agent and signed a very team friendly contract. As soon as it was said he wasn't going to ask for a trade all that speculation that he didn't want to be here should have gone out the window.
Glad Johnny can be a team player. If he really wanted 8 million I see no reason why he wouldn't sit out a few games. The fact that he wanted to play from Game 1 is a very good sign I think. |

You guys aren't concerned the deal is a a couple years short? What's up with that? |

He can probably Math ok and logged into HockeyBuzz Cap Central and lowered his demands. |

they got the AAV they wanted
JG got the no trade (5 teams in the final season) and they only bought one year of UFA
They also likely convinced him the extra money would help them win
I think its a fair deal |

7 seasons from now? who the (frank) knows...no point in worrying about it now
worst case they trade him in year 6 or extend him
rather have his prime years at 6.5...somebody else can pay him 10M until he is 36 or whatever |

Maybe we'll concern ourselves in 5 years from now. For now, we got Johnny's prime years on a sweetheart deal until he's 29. |

I don't think it's his agent. I think it was his mom the whole time. Look at the hints:
1. Johnny said from the get-go, he wants to stay in Calgary, and would sign matching contracts with Moni (he doesn't care about the money)
2. Right after Johnny signed, the Flames FB page re-posted their segment on his mom, and literally the entire post is her whining about how Johnny is too far away from home.
3. In another article, it said Treliving went to NYC not just to negotiate and speak with his agent, but also his parents. They were clearly a big factor in the decision-making.
4. As for the 8 million ask: For all we know, Eric Francis is completely unreliable and could have lied. If it's true and I had to guess: Lewis Gross is a relatively new agent and wanted to earn big bucks and make a name for himself, knowing his marketability and how his mom wanted him to stay out East.
5. Johnny's tweet said he "decided". Seems like he was tired of his agent and his parents nudging him to sign for more or go closer to home. He ultimately "decided" that he personally wanted to play hockey in Calgary at the end of the day with his teammates and fans. The money never mattered to him at all. As such, he thanks his parents and agents in that same tweet. |

Not sure why I keep seeing that Lewis Gross is a young start up agent trying to become established. He's actually pretty accomplished and been around for quite some time.
Sports Professional Management was founded in 1987. Lewis S. Gross, a practicing CPA holding a Masters Degree in Taxation, started the firm with just one player, Denis Potvin, Hall of Fame defenseman of the New York Islanders. Lewis worked with Denis, one of the greatest hockey players of all-time, to properly prepare him for retirement. As his career was winding down, Denis knew that it was important to engage the services of a professional to properly negotiate his last contract, and provide him with an intelligent financial plan.
Over the following two years, Mr. Gross structured a plan that allowed Denis financial independence. Through deferred compensation, contract restructuring, retirement funding and debt free purchases, Mr. Gross set up a plan that would give Denis financial security as he entered retirement. In addition, he taught Denis how to take control of his own finances. Denis subsequently retired from hockey with the knowledge that he was prepared and financially secure for life after hockey.
When Mr. Gross began the firm, he envisioned creating a small independent agency, which would offer its clients excellent service and personalized attention. This was the focus of the firm back then and remains the focus today. During the 1990’s there was a wave of mergers and consolidations in the sports agency business. Sports Professional Management resisted these overtures, and remained independent in order to maintain the personal client contact that the firm was founded on. Today, the firm represents over 60 players and still offers the same personal attention as it did in 1987 with its first client.
Today, Sports Professional Management is considered one of the leading sports agencies in the industry. We have represented Hall of Famers, All-Stars, and league MVP’s. We also helped one of our clients to receive the largest arbitration award in the history of the National Hockey League. The success of the firm continues but our focus has not changed. We will continue to remain a small independent firm that stresses quality over quantity. Sports Professional Management works very hard for every one of our clients, and it is a privilege to represent each person that puts their trust in our firm. |

You know its good deal when other teams fan bases come on to congratulate you and the trolls are looking for any angle to create dissension. We just got one of the premier offensive talents signed to a team friendly deal till the kid is 29.
Hoping to see Kulak's and Parenteau's name's on the roster today. |

What's with the Paranteau thing? Are you trying to start ROOMERS??!?!
That being said....did any of you hear BT on the Fan this morning? On about 3 different occasions he said they were looking at doing something in the next few days now that Johnny is out of the way. Sounded like there may be a trade (or signing) in the works. |

You just created one....and it looks to be an E4 as now 2 people are talking about it!
I did not hear that.
By the looks of it right now they have 2,700,000 cap space. Once the regular season starts Lady Smid's will be off for another 3,500,000.
Will see what the roster looks like before I start making my own hot cakes. |
