Honestly as a fan, I obviously would have liked a longer 7 or 8 year deal. But thinking about it more, this is probably the sweet spot for both sides...any longer and the cap hit would have been more cause it eats up more UFA years
6 years is still quite long, and if after 6 years he continues to show that he is an elite player and has come home with some real hardware, especially a cup, then he'd be justified asking for his 8+million, hell if he helps us win a couple cups he'd be looking at Kane/Toews money
On the flip side, the 6 years at a lower cap gives us some safety in case his size does prove to be an issue with injuries, decreased production, etc...

We have his prime years in this contract and that's what matters!!
This also cements the precedent on contracts for Bennett and Tkachuk
