Let's hope Ulmark gets his game together in Roch this year.
Could be a nice 1-2 punch next year.

I didn't get to watch much (part of the 1st, but it was while we were picking tickets, so I wasn't really paying attention). I listened to part of the 3rd on my way home from the gym. They said that Lehner was letting the goals he let in get to him or something. Said you could see it in his body language. Hopefully he settles in and it's not a consistent issue. Not that it hurt us at all yesterday. But it's been mentioned before that he can get in his own way sometimes.

Maybe it's true. But from the 2's, he looked solid and quick, didn't seem to overdo or lunge and flop. Stayed pretty tight and quick all game.

He looks upset all of the time - I think that is part of his makeup. I was watching him in warmups (he was stretching) and he looked like he wanted a piece of someone.

That's good. Just need to make sure he doesn't lose his focus. They said on the radio that it seemed like he was frustrated with what was going on in front of him and that there really wasn't much he could do on the two goals they scored.

He's definitely a very intense guy, so that could be true. I'm excited to see what he might be able to do for us this year. I thought his numbers were pretty solid last year especially when you factor in the fact that his ankle was an issue all season.

Who called the game on the radio? I didn't see any of that, and I was very focused on Lenner because so many of us think he's a key to the success of the season.

Ray Ferraro was the analyst for the Senators feed (that's what was on MSG) and he was nothing but complimentary to Robin.

3 thoughts from last night:

Lenner and Moulson both had games that should lead management to feel like they could both have the kinds of years we'4"re all hoping they'll have.

Franson just looked slow, and barely capable of defense

Too many youngs in the lineup to draw any definitive conclusions about what the real lineup might play like.

- Der Kaiser

Lehner did look great, moved really well.

Franson is slow, but is gone at end of season, so best move is to pair him up to get best trade return. Not sure any other D man is ready to take his place (next up would be Nelson, IMO)

Yes, way too many young guys, 4 of our top 5 did not play last night. Tough to figure team out without those guys. (EDIT: I meant forwards, forgot about Risto, so maybe 5 out of top 6 then)

Baptiste seems to be a lock to be here after this season. This season will be tricky with him. (glad Murray said no to all trades including him and Bailey)

I wouldn't call him a lock - there are going to be a ton of guys competing for the spots left by a couple of guys that won't be here. He could still be a tweener.

It was Brian Duff and Rob Ray on the radio. If I'm remembering correctly, Duff was the one that actually said it. He wasn't saying that Lehner was playing poorly, just that there was some frustration coming out in his body language. Like I said, I didn't get to see it. And he got the W, so probably no need to get too worried about it.

I just know that his temperament has been an issue in the past. Don't want to see that creeping back up in his game now.

I would say atleast until Moulson is gone....but after this year we are going to have Nylander pushing for that spot

Didn't see the 2nd goal...but the 1st goal was just dumb luck...so if the 2nd goal was just as flukey I could understand him being a bit frustrated as well as he was playing

Fair enough, but with Gionta, Foligno, Larsson, Cal OReilly gone (at the least) I think there will be a bunch of openings. Nylander should be a lock in 2 years, but needs some developing.

(and I think Girgensons and Ennis are as good as gone, if he plays well it just increases trade value)

I think Gionta is the only sure-fire exit after this year.

It was a weird bounce and I understand him being frustrated, but those bounces happen all the time, it really is part of the game.

You're also forgetting that you're going to have guys like Bailey and Fasching pushing for some of the spots that get vacated.

Not sure why you think that both Foligno and Larsson are going to be gone for sure too. Do you know something we don't?

He's an ultra competitive guy. Things like that will always get to him. It's a matter of him managing how much he lets it get in his head.

I could actually see us sign Gionta to a 1 year deal if he does well this year. (dont want them to, but could see it).

I think if Folingo is inconsistent, he is gone. I think if Ennis and Girgensons play well, we take the increased trade value and move on. (Ennis would stay if he does not try to do everything himself)

Larsson would be a decent 4th liner if needed, but if Cal OReilly or another performs better, I could see us walking away from him.

I agree, those are players that are pushing hard too. Those players mentioned make me think we move on from Larsson and Foligno.

Next year I feel:
Fasching = (better) Folingo
Bailey / Nylander / Baptiste = (better) Larsson

Ennis had alot of jump in his game last night, but it was also very east/west and less in the way of north south.

I'm glad to see him back on the ice, but it could still be better from him.

You have to take into consideration the roles those guys play though and if the ones coming in are going to do well in those same roles. I see Bailey, Nylander, Fasching and Baptiste all as guys that could slot in somewhere in the top 6, where Foligno and Larsson are bottom 6 guys.

Ennis will never be a strictly north/south kind of guy. It's just not how his game works. There's always going to be a lot of east/west in his game. Doesn't mean he's not capable of being a big contributor on the team though.

Plus, he missed most of last year with a major head injury. Glad to see him back out there and by the sounds of it, with a pretty solid game. Might take him a bit to get all his timing and stuff back though. I think his game will improve some between now and the first month of the season.

There should be one blindingly obvious warning spot around Jacksonville.
