Schneider plays on the most defensive team in the league...to an extreme. Sure you could have an opinion that he's #1...but tough to prove when his team approach is to try and have 1 shot against/for per period.

"The USA made the decision to start Quick over Schneider, with no apparent regard for the guy who is widely considered to be one of the two or three best goalies in the world. "
quick stopped 63 of 66 shots in his appearances in the preliminary games, and that includes his ridiculous performance in 2 periods against canada with 29 saves on 30 shots. how did schneider do in his appearance against canada? 4 goals on 24 shots, and that was without Crosby in the lineup.
enough nonsense about reg season stats...each goalie had the same team usa in front of them and time in net in the exhibition games and quick had the best results of the three, he won both games he played. |

you can't fake a .924 save percentage. he also got less goal support than any other goalie in the league so he had no margin for error but was still always on top of his game. |

This is not the 1990's NJ Devils. NJ may rely more on defense because they are weak offensively speaking, but that doesn't mean they have a good defense.
Schneider faced 1597 shots! Extreme defensive teams would not be letting that many shots hit the goalie.
Quick faced 1820 shots.
While I think Schneider is a top five goalie, I don't think stats tell the whole story of any position in hockey. Stats don't show how goalies handle certain types of game situations, how they rebound(no pun intended) when they let up a bad goal or go down a few goals.
Stats don't show how a goalie handles pressure, period. Quick is a clutch goalie and tremendous under pressure. The World Cup is a high pressure tournament since it's do-or-die each and every game. Quick is used to this type of environment more-so than Schneider, so yes, I'm going with Quick over Schneider. |

I think you have to look at it as a short tournament where every game is important. I think Quick gets the nod. Although if I have to build a team for a season I would take Schneider.
They are both extremely good goalies, just different scenarios. |

it's not really, he consistently is a league leader in high-danger scoring percentage. |

Tanner, your blind, smug dedication to advanced stats is the only resaon why coaches like torts and carlyle are reluctant to embrace them!
Dial it back a bit and maybe the ducks win the cup this year |

so Quick faced 220 more shots but NJ isn't defensive...hmmm.
Pretty close to the lowest shots against in the league...not saying he's a bad goalie...but he gets tons of help from his defense...they are a defense 1st team.

True, but it helps when 5 teammates are standing the in crease with you.
