I was always a fan of Mcneill, I think he will be a good player once he gets his feet wet.
I'm a little surprised to see he has only gotten one game in the NHL so far, is that just because your depth has been so good or has he had fallen out of favor with the organization?
A couple things, Sved will have to clear waivers Correct? I'm not sure he will. I think somebody looking for a 7-8 D man might give him a try and see if he has improved at 24/25.
Also If we move TVR at the deadline for a rental that will really bother me. Let make a move for a guy and let him learn and grow by what everybody says is great leadership. We had a shot to get droiun last year and opted for a rentals instead. Think about if he was here this year playing with Teows and Hossa?
The big hole in the theory of TVR + Svedberg or TVR + a pick could possibly return a top 6 LW, even if the other team accepted our package (I personally dont think either combo is still enough to land a LW that isnt a project) the problem is still the cap
TVR and a pick only move out $825k in cap
TVR and Svedberg only moves out $825k as well if Svedberg is in Rockford, and only $1.575 mil if by some miracle you had svedberg AND TVR penciled on the NHL roster
In the most likely scenario, with Campbell/Hammer/Seabrook/Rozy/Keith/Kempny taking the main 6 spots with someone like Pokka or Forsling winning a job, we likely are only moving out $825k in cap as Svedberg has likely been pushed back to AHL duty again with the Campbell/Kempny additions
Add TVR's exiting cap hit of $825k on top of their current cap space, you need to find a top 6 LW player that is making ~$3 mil. Good luck with that as anyone who would be an actual 1LW option at that pricetag is probably too valuable to the other team and the asking price for said player is likely much higher than TVR+Svedberg or TVR+Pick
Could someone like Tatar be an option? Sure, but Tatar likely only becomes a 1 year rental because he needs a big RFA raise next summer. Holland also probably doesnt even both considering either of those trade packages
I think the only person that could make sense given the team need, fit, trade partners, and cap is Leo Komarov from Toronto.
You can send TVR to play with his brother, give Toronto more rebuilding pieces, and his cap works with a $2.95 mil cap hit for this year and next year. Komarov also plays an excellent 200 ft game and is a natural center in case anything happens to Anisimov or we need to move him. Komarov can also be a 2C option

I believe they also have some cap space at present, FWIW
I took that into account, that's how I estimated the ~$3 mil in cap available to take on a LW player after trading out TVR
TVR - $825k
Current cap space - around $2.25 mil - hawkeytalkman
Also, that is with gustafsson on the roster. If someone like Pokka or Forsling make the roster, over Gus, both cap hits being ~$300k more than Gustafssons, they have even less
What they really need is a miracle of Scuderi to retire to free up that extra $1.1 mil
Any chance DeBrincat comes in and earns the #2 lw spot?? - joegreif17
zero chance. it has already been announced he is going back to major junior.
too young and at his size, they should let him get as physically mature and strong as he can possibly fit into that 5'7 frame before calling him up to the NHL
Isn't it pro-rated though? So, if it stays at ~$3 Mil of cap space at the deadline, you could get a $6mil/year player because you would only have to pay the player roughly 1/3 of his salary.
I think the hawks should save that cap space through the entire season, unless it looks like Panarin will not hit his bonuses again. I would rather have much more flexibility next summer with the cap. This year we have a 3,000,000 overage penalty. With Panarin bonuses being possible, campbells almost certainly, and other youngsters who could hit some as well; I think the hawks need to keep that space open. Take off the 3 mil for overages next year and the 2.5 ish of cap space this year leaves you with 5.5 in space without accounting for any players coming off the books. The cap should go up a little bit at least and that makes signing Panarin a lot easier than trying to deal with more overage penalties. Didn't even include the Scuderi retained money which is a little over a million too. Having over 6 mil in space would make signing Panarin a lot less of a hassle. Maybe one of these youngsters steps up a little and fills a top 6 roll and we can run with it.

FWIW, I am super excited to see if he can turn into a solid player at the NHL level in years to come. Super high end skill obviously. Just needs to put on a little muscle and improve his speed. If he became like a Tyler Johnson for the Hawks Id be thrilled

Not sure physical maturity is the issue. The kid looks stacked. Not sure how much bigger he can get. Experience-wise he is not ready. He would get wrecked at his size. Is he going to be at prospect camp/training camp invitee?
Edit: I guess he is only listed at 160-165lbs. So he could get a little bigger. He looks more physically mature than TT already though.

Was this ever proven out?
Hard for me to believe that Yzerman was ever really going to move a #3 overall pick with LOADS of potential - 20 years old - no matter HOW much trouble he was causing at the time - especially for another young player who hadn't proven anything in the Show either.

Johansson seems to me to be an opportunity to move Darling before he demands more than the Hawks can afford to pay him as he becomes a UFA next season.
I just dont see any scenario where CC is chucked aside. It is not analagous to the Niemi situation in any way because when the Hawks moved him up it was a battle of the unprovens for the #1 role in 2010. In that season he was selected over Crawford.
Today the Hawks have Crawford as an established elite goalie and the battle is now for who will be #2 at a low price.
Connecting dots here could we see a package of Darling and some defensemen to sweeten the pot for that missing top six LW?
Find teams that need a goalie at a low fixed price for this year and the chance to offer Darling a #1 role and a new contract next year and you have found the dance partners for a deal.

he really isnt "stacked" at all. Sure, he might have good low center of gravity due to his height (making it harder for much taller players to get leverage on him in junior) but he is far from built, which, if this kid is going to make his hay in the slot and down low like he has been in junior, he will really need to add strength all over. Someone like Shea Weber or Drew Doughty would put this kid on his rump with ease

Backup goaltenders have probably the lowest value across the league in terms of trade unless it is a guy ready to break out and be a starter somewhere like Martin Jones, and even then, they are had for single high picks or multiple lower picks. Rarely do they ever return an impact player like a top 4 dman or top 6 forward.
Most teams like to keep their backup goalies coming from within the system or if they are THAT desperate for a starter, they usually go out and sign one of the top goalie FAs on the market rather than coughing up high assets and giving a career backup a starting gig
You would really have to catch a GM sleeping or completely desperate to pull that kind of move off

YES I would be dead wrong. I saw some pics of him where it looked like he had a linebacker sized neck. Based on that video I was way off. Get him on the Martin St. Louis workout program. I know that little man was jacked.
