I mean, zone starts is somewhat notable, but the scale on that chart puts them pretty close in terms of QoC and zone starts...
- Blackstrom2

I hear ya..

The difference in QoC to me is on average rielly plays against >50% corsi players, Gardiner <50% corsi players. That combined with the significant difference in zone starts tells me rielly factually faces tougher situations.

Beyond the average, sure seems like to me gardiner was never on the ice vs. guys like Ovechkin etc. But that’s just anecdotal, I would have to look it up.

edit:
Rielly vs. Ovechkin - 32 minutes
Gardiner vs. Ovechkin - 3 minutes

Rielly vs. Crosby - 29 minutes
Gardiner vs. Crosby - 6 minutes

Breakout seasons for Lucic, McDavid, Eberle, Pouliot, Draisaitl, Yakupov, Maroon, RNH, Puljujarvi, Hendricks, Letestu, Kassian, Lander, Klefbom, Larsson, Sekera, Fayne, Nurse, Davidson, Talbot, and Gustavsson.

Everyone else in the division turns to complete sh1t.

Sorry Irish but that is an opinion and not a fact. Should the moves he's made not pan out then that argument can be made. Until then lets give Chia's version of the Oilers an actual chance to hit the ice before we call it a failure.

Well you boys better hope he pulls a Jimmy Rutherford...

Given that he went to Harvard and has a Juris Doctor it's tough to call him an idiot. It doesn't mean that he makes great decisions, but he is certainly not lacking in intelligence.

Funny thing about degrees, diplomas, Doctorates etc... The guy who passes with a 51% gets the same accreditation as the girl who passes with a 91%, so keep that in mind there Lums...

Oil are bound to make the playoffs one of these days. Just need one of them fluky seasons like you guys did a year or so back.

That's the best gif representation I can find of what Oiler and Flames fans must look like when they smack talk each other after our respective records last season.

See the operative word is MADE the playoffs, oh and won a round... was fun. Hopefully you get to experience it before McDavid asks to be traded and Chia gets Gardiner for him for that stud blueliner you've been needing for so long...

Come on, Tanner. I was really rooting for you after that World Cup article. Why do you have to do this?

I agree that Bennett is going to have a phenomenal season, especially of he's going to get Tkachuk on his wing. He's already a good scorer and under Gulutzan I think he'll really thrive.

Two of those guys were at the top of their games... A better representation would have been The Brooklyn Brawler and Barry Horowitz punching the sh1t out of each other.

Yup, Horvat made the best of tough situation last season but he most likely wont get the same amount of ice time as last year. If he hits 50 points, I think most fans will be thrilled but I expect similar numbers as last year for him.

Bennett is an easy choice especially if ends up playing wing in the top 6, although from what I understand he is slotted in to play C ?

I could see Silvferberg possibly have a breakout year, he was so good in the playoffs 2 years ago and still think he has a bunch more to give.

Hertl is my pick for breakout player, too much skill on that roster and again looked great for them in the playoffs.

- belcherbd

I think the plan is for Bennett to play C but who knows really

I like both Silvferberg and Hertl to have breakout years as well

I have neither the optimism nor the intense homoerotic desire to be that much of a homer.

This is literally the first time I've heard anyone talk about Sam Bennett as a breakout player.
Imo, he's hitting 60 points this season, while I heard all this talk about bad players like Kasperi Kapanen due for breakouts, or other nonsense. Even Dylan Strome and PLD. They've already cracked the Top 200 fantasy lists while Bennett isn't even mentioned.
