Didn't want to quote your original post because of the length but I have been asking the same question for the last 2 years, while I definitely think there are things the league can do to make the game more entertaining creating empty scoring isn't the solution. If they removed the goalie and just played 6on6 games would be 40-39 but the game would be unbearable to watch. The excitement comes from the speed/skill that leads to the scoring not the actual scoring itself so making changes to allow for more speed/skill would absolutely increase the excitement and entertainment of the game. - jaydogg1974
I think the gear for goalies need to get smaller cuz they are freaking humongous now. not to take away from the skills of the goalies we have but they get it easier than early roy and hasek had. not to mention the goalies in the 70s and 80s. |

I really don;t think it's fair to give Kessel credit for an iron man streak. "Iron" would indicate that he somehow survives abuse. Kessel has always shied away from physical play, corner play. He plays in the safe area and lets his team mates do the dirty work. Giving Kessel an iron man award is the equivalent of giving the princess, in princess and the pea, a perseverance award for sleeping on that bed of mattresses. - B-Wforever
She deserves it. After being pampered all her life, she had to sleep with something jabbing her all night. That lady deserves a god damn statue. |

The 2009/2010 version of Kris Versteeg is gone. He's a defensive liability who has lost 2-3 steps and is terrified of physical contact. I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team. - jmatchett383
I'm not so sure. His HERO charts for 2016 show that he's still suppressing shots at a 2nd line level, and his shot generation and possession numbers are still top line quality. I don't think he's a top line player by any means, but 2nd/3rd line? Absolutely. Better than Eric Fehr IMO. |

Let's see what Eric Fehr does this year when he isn't coming in following an injury that required surgery and couldn't have training camp. I suspect Fehr will be much better. Maybe the Rags should have looked at VerSteeg. Sounds like a better option than many on your roster. |

I have absolutely no issue with changing the goalie equipment, it certainly wasn't what I was pointing to as a bad idea. I was more pointing to the suggestions of making the nets bigger and other fundamental changes to the game that are designed to generate empty scoring, I could argue that the changes to the goalie equipment will actually highlight the actual skill and agility of the goalies while also increasing the scoring.

Not that I'd want to help the Penguins in any way, but why on Gods green earth is Kris Versteeg not on an NHL team? Somehow he went unsigned and is now playing in the Swiss league. He's not injured, he's a Stanley Cup vet who is defensively sound, drives possession and has decent speed to go along with decent scoring touch. He's certainly not Kessel but he could definitely slot right in on that 3rd line and they prob wouldn't miss a beat. Plus he would come very cheap. Again, not trying to help Pitt out, but it just seems like the smart thing to do. - SpeedBlue91
Curious as to why your suggesting Versteeg to the Pens as opposed to wanting him added to the Rangers? Without trying to turn this into a "whose team is better argument", I would say that the Pens are in better shape forward-wise than NYR are so if it's a good idea for the Pens to look into Versteeg then it should be a better idea for the Rangers to sign him.

Yeah, but its a free website, where we get almost daily content to read about the Pens in a different form than the usual mainstream media... I think I can ignore some bias/agendas for that opportunity. |

oh I didn't mean to direct it at you. it was just my thought about the whole "need more goals" thing. I completly agree about smaller equipment will highlight the skill and agility of the goalies. |

They picked the team well before his injury and surgery was announced. - Guile
Did they not have to put someone on as an injury replacement the last little bit?
That is what I'm referring to. I recall hearing about how Kessel was snubbed by team USA again. (not referring to original roster selections) |

My guess is that he did suggest it on the NYR thread and they rejected it so he brought it here.

I'm just so sick of the "trade Fehr-sign Hudler" craze that RW puts out there on a constant basis. And who cares? Free website/opportunity or not, it's still annoying. |

oh... Isn't it fun to poke fun at the Leafs lack of Cups...
but seriously... there are MUCH more current poopshows by their franchise to make fun of... get some new Material. and this is from a Habs fan that can't stand the Leafs. |

Why get new material when the old, reliable material is still so relevant?

Ok.. then let's talk about the team who has won the most cups in league history.
Still relevant? |

Fair enough...
but there are so many things we can poke fun at:
- inability to make the playoffs outside of shortened seasons
- inability to handle assets
- trades that have blown up in their face
- revolving door of coaches (until Babs)
- .... etc |
