I'd have to look back and you know I'm old'ish….I don't have the time as I've got fishing and golfing and stuff like that to do. Plus the list my wife gives me every week hasn't been started yet and it's already Thursday….it's Thursday right? - LeftCoaster
Yeah, something tells me we'd both probably put more effort into making the other guy look bad if this was November, not August.

There's a lot of unknown's in this, like how did Florida feel about Crouse? Did they still believe in him or did they feel like he wasn't' living up to his 11th overall selection.
Will Bolland play again? How good will the Arizona draft picks be, here's where I believe they'll be good picks as Arizona is a poop team. |

Obviously here Arizona wins the trade as they give up two draft picks and get a prospect in return who's value is much higher than those two picks. It cost them 3 years of Bolland's contract BUT since they actually need it to reach the cap floor next year this contract while bad is not bad for Arizona.
That being said Florida didn't do that horrible. They freed up $5.5M in cap space for 3 years and have them the flexibility to take on rentals or fill in any missing pieces at the deadline AND got two picks to use to do that. It cost them Crouse their 11th overall pick but considering they didn't need him, this could work out great despite the loss in value. |

“But after 30 consecutive games, the insurance kicks in, with the insurance company paying 80 per cent of that player’s salary while the team picks up the other 20 per cent. “

ahh. news to me. Anyway, 20% isn't bad, especially when you get a player on an ELC making $1M for 3 seasons out of it. Ends up being savings to them in the end. |

Love Crouse as a prospect.
He is that swiss army knife type player. PP, PK and he was playing on the top line at the World Juniors and was maybe 1 of 3 players that showed for that tournament.

yeah I was hugely impressed with him at the WJCs. He held his own even 2 years ago. |

Arizona needs those coachable type prospects that coaches love and can play anywhere.
They have enough super elite offensive juggernaut type players in
Garland
Keller
Strome
Dvorak
All of whom put up 100+ point in their leagues |

Bury Bolland if you have to but getting Crouse for a 2nd and 3rd is nothing short of amazing.
Pretty impressive.
If you play Bolland I imagine it makes the team worse. The contract obviously hurts but Arizona is always on the hunt to meet the cap floor.
Getting Crouse. A massive young cost controlled highish end prospect... outstanding.
I don't how Florida rationalizes throwing away a prospect like this unless they have someone lined up to improve their team with the cap space. |

This is a good deal for Arizona because it's now a team that's over the cap floor without spending real dollars. It's a good deal for Florida because now they have cap flexibility.. the other pieces, Arizona gets a decent prospect and Florida gets (probably) two 3rd round picks. Considering a 3rd rounder can be had for moving almost any fringe NHLer at the deadline, is it that big of a loss? |

Good chance he gets bought out after this season though. Or they get lucky and he gets "injured" in the Stephen Robidas style. - James_Tanner

Crouse offensive upside is not that high atm but he is still a very good prospect. He is an all-around winger with great size and it is not impossible he can be a top-6 winger in the future. |
|
|
|
Is he overpaying? Cause you're not generally going to give away your 11th overall pick one year later for a 2nd and a 3rd. It seems that its a fair cost. - James_Tanner
It'll be an early 2nd, and an early 3rd

Tanner actually manages to contradict himself multiple times in this blog. Literally....not a week later, but in the same blog.
James....it is obvious that you just sit down in front of the typewriter and type whatever you are thinking. You ebb and flow throughout. It is distracting and worse, it makes you look like a fool.
My feelings on the deal? Florida managed to get out from under a contract that they hated for a very reasonable price. Hopefully Arizona has other moves in mind, because on paper, this is not a win in any sense of the word. |

When pronger and datsyuk are off the books next year, bolland’s caphit will help.
Saw your update.
After Bolland was injured again and shut down for the season this past April, sportsnet reported bolland failed his physical (presumably closer to the june buyout window) and was ineligible to be bought out.
Health is potentially an active issue with bolland.

You nailed it! This trade has nothing to do with Crouse as a top six nhler, it was all about the money, Florida can afford losing Crouse and he will be a nice addition to the Yotes very soon. Crouse is a pretty good hockey player with huge upside.

.@FlaPanthers AGM Eric Joyce said Dave Bolland has 'significant' injury, 'going to be real hard for him to play this year.' |

Coyotes are going to have the best sandwiches in the league. Be interesting to see if it translates to better play on the ice
Eat more sandwiches=more energy=better play?? |

That may be your opinion but I disagree. A big strong 19 year old winger who can dig out pucks and could be a late bloomer as far a offense goes, great trade for both teams for different reasons. Florida saves a ton of money on a washed up Bolland and Arizona gets a top end prospect for the cost of doing business. |
