Building an arena doesn't guarantee a team.... Kansas City, Quebec. - burn
Agree - the two major players in media are co-owners of the Leafs. If they each had a team - it could conceivably work. Where would the casino broadcast its games - pay per view?

A second team would easily be supported, the problem is the Leafs ownership would have to change in order for the new team to exist. - winsix
If a 2nd team were to come about, I think that the bell/Rogers group would split and one becomes full owner of the leafs and the other leaves and becomes owner of new team.

I can see a second team in the GTA - Caesar's will not be part of the ownership. They filed for chapter 11 last year

Screw a second Toronto team. There's a great city, with a thriving population that can handle a NHL team in southern Onatrio. Plus, it's far enough away from Toronto, Buffalo, and Detroit so there won't be any vetoes. Waterloo Wolves, anyone? |

I can see this working, if one of the two telco companies decide to sell their share to the other, in regards to the Leafs. It might allow the sides to settle the fee to move into the Leafs territory by selling their half to the other. Either Rogers or Bell end up with the Leafs, and the other gets the new team, without paying that fee, after an expansion fee or the fee to move a team from elsewhere.
