I think the Oilers should be in win now mode no matter what. Yak on the team as asset management cripples the teams chances of winning IMO.

The two things I don't like from Chiarelli is not moving Yak for legit two way nhl player. Even a respectable 4th liner that plays and shoots right would be fine imo. And signing a less than adequate back up in the monster.

Get rid of Yak who is useless in a bottom 6 role and isn't good enough for a top 6 role. Get a real back up. This team would be much more competitive.

I agree completely about his development and would be a nice shift to see the Oil take their time instead of rushing things.

So who's EDM top end D prospect? Reinhart? Haven't heard much good about him, really, though I haven't seen him play much so I wouldn't know. I guess Nurse is younger, but how GPs until they're no longer a prospect? Cupboard looks pretty bleak on the defensive end to me:

I just don't get why they seemingly refuse to draft a Dman early in the 1st while the Nucks do it no problem (despite Juolevi being "a reach" at #5). Oil clearly could use a top end Dman in the near future and it usually takes at least a few years for that position to develop compared to forward.

I mean, if the team had taken Murray over Yak, I don't think anyone would've ripped them a new one. I think everyone thought that's who they should've grabbed. And it's not like Yak was miles ahead in projections either. Murray was pretty close and ranked at #2.

Had they drafted Murray, perhaps the team would've also drafted Ristolainen the following year instead of Nurse to balance the pairings. Klefbom- Petry and Murray- Ristolainen wouldve been a good looking D corps.

Glad more people are coming to agree with me. Lucic- Leon- Puljujarvi/Kassian would be a crazy cycle line. Keeping Pouliot with McDavid is preferable to forcing him to carry both Maroon and Yak. It'll also leave some more muscle for Nuge's line.

Ebs is a quality scorer
Nuge hasn't lived up to what we've hoped this far, but dudes a quality player with a ton of upside yet
Leon had a great second season

Nurse is a rook


I think yaks issue might just be on yaks and not neccesarily something we can point to as an organizational failure

Pouliots a great player on any line and can be a defensive conscience. A quality skater to compliment Connor as well


To max- while I'd be totally fine with poo instead of maroon, I'm not sure he (Connor) truly "carried" maroon.
Or at least maroon was just able to keep his low skill game simple-use his body to draw defenders and go to the net.
The size and muscle didn't hurt either.

But maroon doing the same for nuge and ebs is a fine idea as well
