You have to remember that the money is going to be the same wherever he signs, so it really comes down to other factors. In this kids case, his dad works for the Leafs, his mom is pushing him to sign with Boston (his hometown) and who knows what other factors are playing into. A team like Chicago could have Toews on the phone with him saying why don't you come here and win a Cup, sadly, the Pens could be having Crosby doing the same.
When it comes to Philly, at least right now, they aren't going to be able to make the case that they are a legit Cup contender in 16-17, nor will Hextall or Hak guarantee the kid a top 6 spot, just a chance to earn it in camp, and the kid has no connection of any type to our area.
Philly, IMO, is still a very attractive organization to most NHL players and a place guys want to play, however, I don't think we will be a factor when it comes to this kid. - BiggE
I wasn't just eluding to Veasey.
I know the money is the same right now.
I think Lyons was smart coming to Philly as I am not sure Stolarz is the future franchise goalie. hell he could get beaten out in the AHL this year by Lyon.

Caligula!
And I know the reason pretty much is what BiggE said above - dragonoffrost
Wasn't Caligula the Flyers guest at the playoff debacle when the fans were throwing the bracelets on the ice? |

Players coming in an undrafted FAs right now are making the same money no matter what. Their best chance to make money, keeping in mind they're older than most people on their ELC, is to succeed. That's why you saw Panarin go to Chicago; he'll be making over $5M, easily, on his next contract. If he signed with the Flyers, maybe he "only" puts up 45-50 points instead of 77 playing with Kane in Chicago. It's the smart move, especially if you have no loyalty to any team. |

Hey at least we never tanked in the past 40 years. Pens fans can't say that and they've filled their 4 cups with tears of tanking and many losses 30 years ago to the flyers - Just5

Ah. Well, if the Flyers don't sign every free agent, they're obviously on the poop list. - jmatchett383
I'm happy with this teams process. I know it takes time and I know we won't win every person who's name is tied to rumors.
I just think it's funny that everyone wants us in on every free agent when really we can't offer these kids a spot in the top 6 which is what they want. I'd rather we develop the kids we got then go for the quick plug in right now.
And yes my two posts about Caggiula were totally tongue in cheek. |

Not saying Veasey is going to be the next 30 goal scorer but it is a little weird you don't see more players interested in Philly. Philly will have money coming off the books and a pipeline of defense prospects. If I was a forward that would interest me. Roster spots are going to be opening and Philly is a big market to play in.
I guess to each their own but I would think Philly should be an attractive place compared to some others mentioned. - J35Bacher
Caggiula had interest but went to McDavidland; Lyon signed despite heavy competition for the goalie position. |

I know, I was just kidding.
The Flyers have been one of the most pro-active organizations with undrafted FAs, but the bulk of them become Mike Testwuide and Luke Pither. Even a guy like Ben Holmstrom or Darroll Powe could be considered a success as an undrafted FA. Every now and then you hit on a player like Read who actually has NHL success, but it's far from the norm. Remember all the hype surrounding superstar prospect Danny Dekeyser (who's not a bad player)? |

So the Eagles acquire a young wide receiver with great size, good speed and a lot of potential for a generic backup offensive lineman?
Odd deal.

Green-Becham is a a weird dude. Had a lot of trouble in college. Could be a good wild card but also I worry when teams move players like that. Has talent if he can put it together or could be just another guy. |

Exactly.
Its a good risk by the eagles and I am a cowboys fan.
Just like the cowboys going after La'ial Collins even with all the extra stuff going on before the draft.

He was viewed as a top 10 pick before the trouble he got into. The weed thing doesn't worry me as college can throw that at you. But the domestic violence incident is a tad different. Hopefully he's put that behind him |

Bottom line: Don't get too caught up in the hype over a prospect -- don't tally up the All-Star seasons and awards until they're earned -- and keep the long-term big picture in mind. - Bill Meltzer
This.
In fact, that sentiment is the main reason I barely pay attention to the draft and prospects, and only peripherally pay attention to the AHL. To be frank, hardly any of them will make the NHL so therefore I really don't care. That's not a slight to the guys who work hard and make a nice sub-NHL career for themselves. Good for them. Big props. Goodness knows I couldn't be a professional athlete. It's just that following at the sub-NHL level isn't something I'm interested in doing. |

It's a good deal considering I had no clue how Dennis Kelly was on the Eagles. I thought he was terrible.
But it does make you think why the Titans moved him for a back up below average lineman |

But, but, then you'll be left out of arguments over why they should have never taken so and so with their 2nd pick in the 6th round!

I do like the way they seem to be identifying certain skill sets for this team. Good two way guys with size. I think they are building a team that will be hard to play against. |

After Demarco Murray's 71 yard TD, maybe the Titans felt bad for us? But who knows. maybe he didn't want to play for them and he was just a headache not worth dealing with |
