If it comes out that he signs with the Rangers because NY offered immediate playing time and the Hawks didn't... does that change your perception of his character? - Hank3Henshaw
No. What rookie wouldn't choose immediate NHL time over having to work your way up? |

Wanting playing time is a measure of character? Don't all players want more playing time?

To me? No. He's getting the same offer in terms of dollars no matter what, so the next motivating factor might be playing time with the big boys. I have no problem with someone having the desire to play in the NHL right away, if that's something he can be offered. |

if you are listening to kevin hayes instead of scotty bowman, you're not gonna listen to joel quenneville. |

If you are listening to Kevin Hayes instead of Scott Bowman then your judgement issues should be greatly questioned. |

If breadman gets an unmatchable offer then it will be the 4 first round pick type of offer. - mrpaulish
From what I've read, Bowman and Panarin's agent are already working on a contract extension. So hopefully it doesn't even get to that point. I would guess one of the "core" (cough...Crawford) will be dealt after this season to pay for the Breadman's extension. |

Of course they are "working on it". Doesn't mean much.
My guess is Bowman is offering something in the 5s (a bit low)...which the thing would have been a done deal, but Panarin is probably looking 7+ (a bit high)...how much negotiating room in the 6 million range either side is willing to move on dictates if and when a deal gets done.

Stan should sign Panarin now and sort the rest out later.
Anismov, Crawford, and MAYBE Seabrook would be on the block. Count on a Hossa retirement after this season too. |

Ancient astronaut theorists suggest that Vesey is choosing the Blackhawks.

With Bowman's history of procrastination, I'm just happy it's being discussed already to be honest. I would think they'll meet somewhere just north of 6M (which is exactly what Crow makes ironically). |

I agree. I think if we can get Panarin for 6-6.4 or so that's a nice deal for the Hawks...high 6s is tough but maybe workable. Anything over 7 then I don't think the Hawks can play ball.
I know he has only played 1 year, but NOTHING in his game suggest to me he isn't a long term player. The WORRY about waiting is Panarin blows up again (maybe even with new linemates) and prices himself out of Chicago. |

Alot depends on if Panarin hits the bonus again. At 6.5 X6-8 years you could afford him by moving Kruger if pan does not hit his bonus again.

Count me in the Hossa "retirement" ala Pavel Datsyuk to clear space for next season. |

Look for Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya to come back next offseason as the back up plan after Panarin signs with the Blues. |

Seriously, what's a better option for him. Playing with Stepan/Zuccarello or two HOF guys like Toews/Hossa? It's a no brainer unless being closer to home really is a big deal to him. You're 23, not 18. Grow up and play where is best for you and your career like the majority of the NHLers. He's picking NYR? - Assman22
I'll be very very very very very surprised if he picks the Rangers. To me that's more Twitter hope, common he went to Harvard he can't be that.... |
