Marner needs to be one of the top 12 forwards in camp to make the team. Fit is secondary.

Given the amount of junk on the roster, this doesn’t appear to be a tall task.

If marner has a good camp, he makes the team. Babcock will find a good place for him on the roster.

Someone with no future on the team like greening/michalek/lupul/laich etc will end up with the short end of the stick. Pretty easy (frank)ing problem to fix.

Your whole fact based argument is based on the fact that you think we should let Marner rot in junior putting up 250 points taking 3 minute shifts because we should play michalek in our top 6. A guy who might get us a 3rd if we're lucky at the deadline.

Seems like we might be right up against the cap if cowan is not bought out. Max performance bonus cushion is $5.475M above the $73M cap. Mathews, marner, nylander and Zaitsev have $5.4M in performance bonuses.

Guys with performance bonuses like brown, sosh and rychel might get squeezed out because of it; at least to start the season and assuming we’re stuck with cowan.

How does it not work? All bonus performance does is move that money to next season's cap.

So if we get 5.4 million in bonuses this year and the cap doesn't change from $73 million then the Leafs will be able to spend up to 74.6 million in the summer (10% overage).
