MAybe it was not as dumb as I thought. Also you are lucky that you moved out of New York wish I could

There's some things that I miss about New York, and I female dog about AZ. But overall, I guess I'd rather live here. My morning commute generally takes me 25-30 minutes, and evening commute 40-50 minutes. Converted to NY travel times it's 1:20 minutes in 2 hours home.

I joke about having 2 weeks of winter here, but honestly, we have about 4 months where the weather is pretty nice. Gets to about 85° during the day, then drops to ±40° at night during winter. Still can golf year round.

From my understanding, the Lighthouse project was shops, restaurant, hotel and a new Arena, correct? Also, didn't wang make several different pitches to the county whereby he reduced the size and developed area and all got rejected? Asking because I didn't follow it on a daily basis and didn't get as much info as you guys.
- Isleshockeyman

His first plan was enormous. Then he cut it down to just huge. It wasn't just shops, he also wanted to put up housing. There were a ton of factors in it being rejected. They didn't want the traffic. The people that owned Roosevelt Field didn't want the competition. The town didn't want low income housing. Wang didn't want to rebuild the Coliseum without getting a big development project.

I was in in 216 row H for 2 seasons.
Rick you are missing my point before. yes isles needed a new arena but had attendance been good, I think wang would have been find with just fixing the arena.
while you and I had seasons, most Nassau/Suffolk Fans were not showing the same support. That said, Barclays attendance is worse and Barclay Ticket sales are morons. They would Rather rip off Season ticket holders to try to recoup money lost on potential individual sale. I suspect Season ticket holders sale will be down sharply this year.

yes but the new outdoor mall that Kate murray passed through next to the Source mall (that everyone left to go to new one) was a great use of County money. And there is no traffic.
Kate Murray sealed her fate. that's why she didn't win DA job.

What even better is Hempstead turnpike by Nassau Coliseum is now Dead. as are the businesses all around it.

Yeah it does. So now that I built it up, let me knock it down. The other 8 months we deal with 100°+ temps with humidity in the upper 30% range, monsoons, dust devils, dust storms (which shut down highways) and lightning storms (which look cool if your watching from inside).

The ones that are into hockey, are really into hockey, like me. Most of the people don't know hockey. They've gone to some of the University of Arizona Ice Cats games, which is a college club program. I'm in Tucson, but hockey is much bigger in Phoenix. Like I've said on here before, we're getting an AHL team, and I've been promoting the hell out of it to co-workers and friends. I now have some of them looking into season tickets, and explained the game a little. They actually put out a little brochure explain some of the more harder to understand rules like icing and off-sides. It's a cool little brochure. I've told a lot of people who have never been to a pro game to sit down by the glass so they can get a sense of how big the guys are, how hard they hit and shoot and how fast the game really is. The last semi-pro team we had here lasted a season and a half before folding. It was essentially a backyard league with no budget for advertisement, etc. That was 18 years ago.

I'm not defending it one way or the other. In the end they all looked like jerks. I was hoping Wang could get something done. Mainly because I wanted the Coliseum renovated. Also because that area could have used some renovations.

I've moved to Suffolk so I don't give a crap anymore.

I forgot about the Roosevelt Field thing. The Glendale Arena is basically the Lighthouse out here. It's pretty cool actually. There's a nice hotel next to the arena, all kinds of shops, restaurants and offices. I think there might even be apartments that are integrated into it. If you do a google earth image of it, you could see how big the area is. There's also a mall across the street one way and a Cabella's (one of my favorite stores) to the north of it. They are going to build a new arena either in Phoenix or Tempe in the next couple years. Apparently those in Phoenix, with the money, are complaining about the drive to Glendale. So, time to move closer to the money.

Man, that low income housing would have really dragged down the property values in Uniondale.

I wasnt missing your point, i just think that it was NEVER about the hockey. The hockey was just the avenue to build a mini city. THATs where he woulda made his money. Even if they sold out every game he wasnt interested in that kinda money. Thats babysitter money to him. He wanted the full scale project cause he woulda made 100s of millions if not billions off of it.

I was in Row J in 215 for MANY years

216 was the best seat in the house.

Theres too much money behind the Roosevelt Field mall and they were against the competition that wang was looking to bring in.

So basically, unless all he did was renovate the arena out of his own pocket, nothing was getting done.

That's pretty standard all over. That just happened out here. The brand new fancy outlet mall opened right next to the freeway and all the retailers in other malls jumped ship to get in there. Now a year later, you can fire a cannon off in that place and not hit anyone. It didn't help that it's an open air mall, and no one wants to walk around when it's 110°

Yes......and Wangs point was he was looking for little to no subsidies and yet they wouldnt approve his lighthouse project. Which is why i say it didnt matter what the attendence was.......he wanted the major project or nothing at all. When he didnt get his way, he essentially said phuck you to nassau county and moved the team to brooklyn.

Basically old money ruled. I thought that was the way it went down, that he was looking to lay out his own money for the most part. I would agree that he was looking to develop and got nothing but closed doors, so he took his team elsewhere.

Dude, I don't know. I'm just rolling with it though. Leaf fan, Harambe, Lighthouse (I guess I brought that up again), politics, and Ishmael. It's all over the map.

*Edit - basically, this place looks like Johnny Manziel rented it.

I really think Wang would have. If TofH had come back to him with reduced plan early on, they could of went back and forth a few time and agreed to something.
Instead Murray and now town super Santino waited to the 11th hour of when deadline was and the dropped the revised plan which was pretty much 25% of what Wang wanted. I would have told her to shove it too.

I got invited to meet ledecky tonight at Eisenhower, and wanted to go and spill that Barclays representation stinks. Unfortunately I have a hockey game of my own.
IF you want season tickets holders to shell 45 games (41 plus the 4 preseason bs games) - you need to create the value proposition. But charging season ticket holders full ticket then flooding ticket master with tickets below face is unacceptable.
