Perhaps, I'm not in the camp that he is a negative asset yet though. I wasn't inferring it would be a big + but my guess is we would have to add a bit. - belcherbd
I dont think hes a negative asset, but Sbisa is young and he was better last season then the season before so he is improving. Who knows how Hartnell will look in the next 2 years |

Do you know who i'd like to see Van go after.
Patric Hornqvist.
Pens are in cap troubles.
A prospect or 2 or pick and a prospect. - manvanfan
Are they in cap trouble though? They have their whole team signed with no RFA's remaining. They are currently over the cap but Dupuis will be on LTIR.
Next year they might look to move a contract but even then they have Kunitz, Bonino and Daley coming off. |

Clarkson's contract set a precedent for agents and their top players. Speculation is that with the next CBA ending in 2019 that the agents want their top clients to get paid early with bonuses so in the future the prospect of buying out a player is not desirable. Agents get paid a percent of the what the player makes so they get the big payday too.
I think its silly that the owners' allow their GM's to do this. - allsports
Happens all the time. Within 1 month of coming out of a Lockout, stupid contracts get signed

Better is a pretty relative term but I agree he looked better. He is still a bottom pairing/depth guy on most rosters IMO being paid handsomely. |

Not like this stupid summer contract where basically Erikson get paid $1m/year for 6 years the rest paid up front.

I wasn't saying trade Tanev because I don't think Van is in a place of pressing need for anyone. Edmonton needed a D, Nashville needed a true 1C. Van I think has a good rounded out team right now. Van is also like you said not in a place to compete, so they can afford to wait.
Sedin Era ends in 2 years. 2 more drafts. See how the seasons go. - manvanfan
I wasnt thinking you were suggesting trading him, but I am more on the side of exploring that option for a guy like Reinhart. Take one step back to take two steps forward, but thats why I say it would depend on perception too as I think moving Tanev could bring in an elite asset that the team lacks, while others see Tanev as that elite piece and too risky to move |

I disagree. We're not at the point where UFA's are a good idea. Very happy they stayed away from Backes, Okposo, Lucic, Russell etc.
The difference (i believe) between the Oilers and the Leafs is there's no comparison between the management groups (during Oilers 1st overall picks). None whatsoever.
Another key thing to remember is as of right now, only the 5th pick has played in the NHL (Nylander had a cup of coffee last year). At this point into the Oiler's (for the comparison) rebuild they'd played about 820 man games (*Approx) in the NHL.
The guy's the Leafs have have played 22 games (other than Rielly).
Nothing about the way the Leafs have been attacking this rebuild is like the way the Oilers did it. - walshyleafsfan
True. The Leafs have been rebuilding for 50 years where the Oil have been doing it for 10. Biggest difference about the Leafs and Oil at this point? The Oil are 1 more good dman away from the playoffs. Leafsā¦not so much. |
