Depends. Arbitration can award Kreider more than he is asking. If the rangers have a max they are willing to pay and fear he may be awarded more, then trading him for something early Friday is better than losing him for nothing. Once Arbitration starts on Friday they can't trade him for 1 year. If they don't sign him for what he is awarded, he goes UFA and they get jack sh*t. Price will be dictated by the amount of teams looking to acquire, and the team willing to spend the most, in this situation gets, him. |

I think we are still a year away before making such moves. Still need to see what we have in Rodin, Etem, Granlund, Baer, and JV. Kreider is a good player though. He drives the Canadian nuts by constantly running Price. Weber may kill him. - Rocket_Launcher
I would rather have Kreider than either of these two. IF Rodin and Sbisa + could land us Kreider, I would happily give Rodin the boot. Proven NHL is better than Potential, not matter how good they do in Europe. |

You haven't even seen Rodin play yet. And why would the Rangers even do that? They have enough room cap wise to come to a deal anyways. Complete pipe dream. Save that for Tuesdays. |

Krieder will probably get a deal similar to Johansson's 4.5 ish. The issue New York is wanting to lock him up for longer term than a year or two until he is UFA eligible. They went to arbitration last contrace and struck a 2 year deal an hour before the hearing time.
They could trade him but I'd say it would be a higher asking price than what you're indicating. Just because they can't sign someone doesn't mean their value becomes ridiculously low. |

This depends. I could see Kreider getting closer to 5 mil. If NYR think he isn't worth more than 4mil and they won't pay him 5 then they either sign him at that price and trade him in a year, or he walks. This is the time that players like Kreider are the cheapest. |

It does depend. But why would he sign for cheap on a longer term? He has scored 21 goals in both years of his current contract and is looking for around 5-5.5 at a longer term and I don't blame him. Otherwise he signs for 4.5 for one year and tries to increase his value. That's what New York is trying to avoid becuase if he has a stellar year he could fetch closer to 6 or more on the open market. They would have more trouble reaching agreeable terms. They will probably settle on a 4 to 5 year term at around 5 million is my guess or a 1 year contract and traded later. |

It doesn't help when Corrado was picked up by the Leafs, and the national media trolls working for Sportsnet and TSN lambasting Benning for "asset management". The waiver wire is filled with young former first round picks (Gormley, Tinordi, Bleakley, Cowen, Pajaarvi, etc..) getting punted to the minors or given away for an order of poutine - but because its nationally fashionable to crap on the Canucks (thank you Ron Mclean) - having a 5th round pick not make the team and put on waivers is national news. - Rocket_Launcher
Happens on slow sports news days.
Back east nothing better to do than make mountains outta mole hills.
They r driven to those heights trying to make the Leafs relevant out here.
Now i cannot explain why we out care about old news that means nothing.

NYR wants 3.2 and he wants 4.75, this is why he may be available for a little less than a signed Kreider would be. Kreider wouldn't get 6mil on the open market. 5mil is top end for him. If NYR are smart, they would sign him for 4.5 and trade him if they don't want to pay him that. He is easily worth 4.5. |

I was referring to a value of 6 million if he has a stellar career year next year. And yes I think with how much some guys get paid he could reach those figures. But just because he doesn't sign does not lower is value. If they don't get value for him they go through with arbitration and decide later.
And I think those values are based on the now and no way Krieder signs anything like that for a long term deal. Maybe a year or two at 4.5 but if he continues to improve he won't want to be an underpaid asset. That's why I would assume he wants to be paid a surplus now to get a longer term done and that would be in New York's best interest. If he signs for cheaper than I say it's a 1 or 2 year term. |

At 4m ish Kreider replaces 2m cap space.
Is he a long term top 6 producer?
Potential vs no guarantee is not an easy slam dunk.
Added to that is who or what does it cost us?
Can sign a Hudler for a stop gap prolly for cheaper & less term & lose nobody.
We don't need either Kreider or Hudler at this juncture IMO.
We go big or not at all as in a Landeskog or Schenn if we r giving up big assets.
Just my 2 bits worth |
