Lesser Matt will be less than pleased - rangerdanger94
And for the record if he hits 30 goals I will be very pleased. Lets see how he plays after the contract. |

Per Larry Brooks' column in the NY Post today:
"The parties are in ongoing negotiations concerning a four- or five-year deal that would buy out No. 20’s first two or three years of unrestricted free agency. It is believed the Rangers are offering in the neighborhood of $4.75 million per with Kreider seeking approximately $5.25 million per." Split the difference and get it done? Sounds to be in line with what I had predicted. - airjan23
If that really is the difference, it's just a matter of time. Both side might just be waiting until the last minute to see if the other blinks. I would bet that if it is not a splitting of the difference, the deal will be closer to the Rangers number.
Edit: Maybe try to buy a 6th year at $5 million. |

Brooks is again writing we got $10.325 in cap space, while generalfanager says $10.650. Can't see who NYR owe 325k in bonuses...? |

I just don't get all the Kreider love. I'm tired of waiting on all the "potential". What you see is what you get -- a 20 goal scorer, with as many assists. He's got the north/south speed, and a hard, if not accurate, snap/wrist shot -- but that's it. No defense, no play-making, no hockey sense, bad in the corners, and he's nowhere near as difficult to play against as someone with his size and strength should be. Get the best return you can for him, and use the savings to fill other big needs. I'll eat my words if he becomes an elite power forward, but I'm not seeing it. |

Brooks probably assumes Buchnevich makes the team and one of Jooris or Gerbe doesn't. |

Gerbe making the team will be a tall order.
This was a height joke.

He is probably, unless someone can think of another person, the only player in the league with his size strength and speed combined. I think 25 a year can be his average and he's already top 10 in Rangers history for playoff goals.
What other big needs do we have?? |

I mean there's nothing wrong with a 20 goal scorer. I like them very much. |

I actually think that is damn accurate assessment. My only quibble would be this. I think he is capable of getting marginally better. I think he can score in the mid to high 20s, and if he can push his numbers up toward the 28 goal/55-60 point range, I think a long term deal in the high 4s wouldn't be that bad. But, he also isn't the type of guy that I would consider untouchable in a trade.

My issue is the money not the player. Anyone who wouldn't trade Kreider for Schwartz straight up should not watch hockey, and thats the kind of deal they are talking about. |
