dont say girgens sucks, you will get ripped and a few dirty messages

kid had the best cast around him since he was here, and put up his lowest point totals, by far

Girgens also had his lowest TOI/G this year

also got forced to the wing in favor of cor, but don't mention that the 14th overall pick was suppose to be part of the solution and is not

http://espn.go.com/nhl/pl...2968829/zemgus-girgensons

we watched all these other sabres slack and our gm held on to them so tight when they slacked and gave them more money

I just want this kid to play like he was drafted to play, being a decent complimentary player to the likes of ror, okposo, eichel, reinhart, kane, etc

sh!t we all thought he would be captain material, clearly we were wrong

honest article

decent read (reed/reid)

after his first year, I really expected him to be like Jere Lehtinen
scary good d for every shift and a 45 point player

I want him to be good with this team, and he needs kick it up a few notches and be part of the solution, not just another 3rd liner

There is no reason he couldn't be one of the better "3rd line" players in the league.

But he needs to realize that he isn't going to be a top 6 forward on this team.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. Girgensons CAN be good in the right role. He thinks that role is a top 6 winger. He's not good enough for that. He's good enough as a 3rd line center if that line is a checking line but on a really good team he's either a 3rd line winger or a 4th line center. I know people just read that and went "You can't put him on the 4th line" and it's not supposed to be a detriment to him. The 4th line on a 3 scoring line team has to be extremely good at getting the puck and locking down top lines of the other team. If he commits to that he could be a key piece to that.

The way the team is now we're not really ready for a 3 scoring line system so putting him on the 3rd line is the way to go for now. But he has to buy in. He has to accept that the days of him getting 20 goals are likely gone but the days of him being a key piece on this team don't have to be. If he can get 10-15 goals and 20 assists on the 3rd line with players like Ennis and Moulson that'd be great. If he can do that while playing solid defense against other teams top players that'd be spectacular.

Anyone arguing Risto > Karlsson, now or ever, needs their eyes checked...

As far as Girgs goes - everyone needs to relax. Is he a super high end talent? No. Should you blame him for wanting a bigger role? No.

He played a big role on a crap team and imo he stepped up for them in '14-'15 ... now they have new toys and he is cast aside like scrap. Considering the effort he gave, I could see why he would feel slighted. How many of you, at age 22, would be ok with younger guys coming in and taking your spot (no questions asked) after you went hard for 2 seasons? Maybe if he was older he'd have the maturity to say "yeah I need to be a role player on this roster" but I know at 22 I felt like I could take on the whole world, everyone else be damned.

- Phatjohnsn

And that's fine that he feels that way but he's wrong. Hockey isn't about making people feel good because they tried really hard. Matt Ellis isn't in the league anymore for that reason. It's about work ethic plus skill. He has one, doesn't really have the other. So, yeah, I get it. But he's wrong.

Good post

I've said from the beginning that I'd use him as a trade piece for someone better, bc I never thought he'd be a consistent 20+ goal scorer for us.
I do think he could score around 15 & be good defensively for us though.
The hate on him has gone too far

I hate him in a top 6 role. That won't change. If we absolutely have to put him next to Eichel and Sam I'm good with it only if we're trying to raise his trade value. Otherwise I feel there are better options for that wing. On the other hand, if Eichel and Sam are good enough they should be able to plug just about anyone there and get some quality production out of them (a la Pittsburgh) but I don't think they're at that point yet.

play every shift and the hate goes away

pretty sure everyone on here wants him to do well

pretty sure everyone if being honest, will say he was one of the biggest disappointments last season

time for him to step up and be part of the solution, not just another skater going through the motions, as I have seen enough of that crap from this team the last 9 years

Ennis
Molson
Bogo
Kane
Franson
Girgensons

All were underwhelming. Only one was still on an ELC

I just mean not all hope is lost for #28. I think he will be ok.

I also don't think it's doomsday if he ends up on a top 6 line.

He generates possession. I wouldn't campaign for him to be there though

I'm not asking anyone to keep him just because he tries hard. I was more saying what I said for all the people who seem mad that he'd want a bigger role. Most humans who strive for better have that desire. So I'm not really disagreeing with you on the fact that he doesn't belong in the Top 6.

However there is a middle ground between "we drafted him mid first round, he should be in the Top 6" vs "he doesn't have skill". He definitely possesses the skill to be an NHL player but its not "Top 6 Fwd on a Playoff team" skill. Matt Ellis didn't have NHL caliber skill.

You seem to be really hammering the guy for no other reason than he wants a bigger role (whether he deserves it or not). I respect his effort and his desire to play Top 6 but sadly he might have to go elsewhere to get the opp to do it. No big deal. Fans need to learn to understand that and not get bent out of shape on it.
