Do I want Kane ? Why not. Two year contract . He hits ,fights and scores 20 goals. - VANTEL
I always like Kane, especially after he thumped Matt Cooke

Don't get me wrong I don't think the Nucks are going to much better, I was just surprised to see how weak their depth is currently. The Pacific division I expect to be a lot more wide open than years past - belcherbd
Oh, that's fair. As was mentioned earlier, LA got weaker, Anaheim got weaker, and San Jose kinda held status quo (might mean getting weaker if Jumbo drops off). To counter that, you guys stayed about the same, Calgary patched their hole in the net (might fix their issue), Edmonton balanced their roster (by losing a trade), and Arizona improved a fair deal (Goligoski really helps that D corps). Assuming things go as mentioned, it could be a much more interesting division to follow. |

Actually, adding Gudbranson improves us as well as adding Loui improves us. Getting rid of Bartowski/Weber/Vrbata also improves us. |

I think we have an improved roster for sure but it's still very up in the air on just how much. Many many different factors involving potential with certain players but that's all it is at this point, potential. We could have guys step up and we make the playoffs or we could have the opposite happen and we are in the lottery again. It's not a terrible spot to be. |

Sedins are another year older, I don't think Gudbranson will really make much of a difference, and I'm not sold on Markstrom. Call it personal bias, but I think you guys are sitting largely the same. Eriksson is quite honestly one of my favourite players in the league, but his addition isn't going to fix a forward corps largely devoid of proven scoring depth. Rodin and Etem could bring some of that, but you'd be asking for more than they've ever been able to show before despite a number of tries. |

I share your optimism but I think it's deeper than that. I just want less injuries overall with Sutter and Edler playing a full season. I think we are better than most give us credit for but we can't keep relying on the Sedins for everything. We need all our lines helping the cause. Whether that be energy, scoring, defense, etc.
We have some interesting players like Rodin and Larsen who could go either way but as long as they play hard I think they will be fine. |

I think you're so wrong about Gudbranson. If you look at what he did for Luongo how he prevented shots to his blocker side you might see the intangibles we got him for. He clears the net well, plays great in the lanes and is a pretty physical guy. Can't wait for him to lay out Connor McBrittle. He also plays big minutes which will take pressure off our top 2 guys. I don't think it's all him that makes the difference but how he will help spread the tough jobs out that will improve us overall.
If you aren't sold on Markstrom, you must be sweating bullets with Talbot. |

Id say Van improved the most actually. Got rid of riffraff like Bart, Weber, Hamhuis - Then added size and strength with Gudbranson, Tram (full season ahead), and puck mover in Larsen - then Stetcher, Juolevi and Brisebois coming down the pipe. I think the D has been given a complete make over, quickly & positively.
I think what you don't realize is that Van have been injecting youth into the lineup for a few years now so players like Bo, Sven, Hutton, ETem, Granlund & Virt (BTW WILL NOT STARTING IN UTICA - Gaunce WILL BE) like any young player will trend upward and show improvement. Hopefully, Sutter can stay healthy and players like Rodin, EriKsson will be more effective than Vrbata, Higgins, Vey & Prust. This team has made significant strides in getting younger, faster, tougher and shed terrible contracts.
BTW - How did Arizona got better? By taking on Datsuks contract to go along with Prongers?
No offence chief but Goligoski and McGinn are not lead that shameful franchise thats not even worthy of a team to the promise land. |

I think you have the wrong idea of what I was trying to say.
I have lots of confidence of Bo and the rest of the young guys. I believe they will do as expected.
If the Sedins who are getting older keep their end up we will be very well off. That said I do expect them to have a good year. |

Not the wrong idea, I see your posts often enough to know you have faith in the group and I don't disagree with what you said. I just feel now is the time for the middle 6 guys to step up if the Sedins falter. If we don't get that type of team play than we aren't improving. |

I'm fully aware of the progressive injection on youth into the lineup, but I just don't see the guys you've added as substantial enough offensive talents. Baertschi is a solid bet at a 15 goal scorer (possibly 20 if things go well) and Bo is trending towards being a capable 2C, but I doubt he's suddenly gonna breakout and become a 60 point guy. Sutter's never been all that gifted offensively and Rodin and Etem are still very much in question. The guy primed for the biggest jump is Virtanen and 30-35 would represent a substantial leap.
What you're neglecting to mention when discussing your young players is the fact that development is usually non-linear. As a prime example, a highly touted top-10 pick in Magnus Paajarvi went from scoring 30 points as a rookie to playing in the AHL for most of the next two years.
On Arizona, I'm not stating they're anything competitive as they're still banking on Smith (or Domingue) as their starter and awful scoring depth, but Goligoski is very solid #2 and will take a serious load off OEL's back. They still managed to stay somewhat in the mix for most of the year despite having a worse roster. They seem to work miracles with what they have. Add Strome and Dvorak at forward and I think there's precedent for some steps forward. |

Not really. I recognize he's far from an elite starter, but he just posted better numbers behind a worse defense and in more games than Markstrom. He also doesn't have a history of less-than-adequate play in the league. |

I think an addition along the lines of Kane might make a lot of sense in that regard. Maybe not Kane, but a young player along those lines. Maybe take advantage of the questions surrounding Hoffman in Ottawa and snatch him up for a discount. It'd give Horvat a running mate to maybe help make him that 50 point guy the roster could use. |

That's easy to say when he used to back up one of the best goalies in the league in New York. New York is also a much better team than anything Markstrom has played with before. Going forward I don't think you can have any more faith in Talbot than Markstrom but our defense is arguably better than the Oilers now and in the future. Talbot can't steal games without a better looking defense. |
