How often has the best dman in the KHL gone to the NHL and been solid there?
There's no reason to assume he'll be good here. It'd be nice but it just might not happen. |

From TSN:
“Frogren signed a two-year contract with the Leafs last July and this decision by the NHL will not impact his contractual status with the team…
Sources say the Leafs have been fined $500,000 for paying Frogren a $755,000 signing bonus which violated the CBA. The Maple Leafs will also have to pay an additional penalty in the form of a draft pick.
It’s believed Frogren used a portion of the signing bonus – $400,000 – to get out of the final year of his contract with Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League.
The issue surrounds the amount Frogren received in the signing bonus as the NHL deemed Frogren to be an entry level player at the time.
According to sources, Toronto didn’t agree with the leagues stand and paid the large signing bonus anyway.

One little tidbit that I read about Zaitsev is that his shot usually gets through traffic.
I remember that being one of, if not the only thing I liked about Franson.
So he's a younger, faster Franson? |

Oh my god. That's funny. Good riddance old losers.
Then there was that time they tried to buy a draft pick from the Lightning for Kolzig. They got fined for that too I think. |

I've never seen Zaitsev play but I'm willing to say with 100% certainty that he is significantly faster than Franson.
Is Franson still in the NHL? |

I'm sure that Lou didn't just hear other teams had interest and decided to snatch him up out of the K.
They likely had a thorough scouting report and discussed it at length before realizing that it was worth it no matter what for a cheap 1 year signing.
It's like the Andersen debate too. I highly doubt management just blindly traded for, then extended the guy for 5 mil. In all likelihood, they have been watching him for months now, evaluating, discussing and finally deciding.
I know we haven't been able to have complete faith in a management staff in a long time, but these guys aren't Dave Nonis and his cronies. |

You also said the Leaf D is absolutely terrible. But you don't know all the players, so how do you know..?
You don't.. - bixll
Well excuse me for not considering Mr. comingoutofnowhere like a major factor in improving the Leafs terrible defense.
Guess he can prove me wrong. |

But you of all fanbases should be able to recognize the effect a good goaltender can have on a defense corps. Not just covering their mistakes, but instilling confidence as well.
We'll see! |

Oh for sure, Andersen could/should improve the Leafs in that matter.
But as I've stated before, while I like Andersen, he's not, to me, a sure thing solid #1 goaltender.
He could very well be and if I was a betting man, I'd say he'll keep improving and become one sooner than later but it's still up in the air for me. |

Teams sign guys that bust all the time though so your argument is sort of meaningless. You're assuming current management is so much smarter than everyone that they won't ever make mistakes. |
