The amount of street meat he eats and the strange he picks up. I don't think I'm breaking news here.

Hey!! some of us have reasons other than geography for our loyalty.
I was an Oilers fan as a kid (who wasn't that started following the NHL in the early to mid 80's?). I moved with Messier. My all-time favourite tough, nasty SOB.

...and no, I did not migrate to Vancouver and back!! I do have standards.

I loved those Oilers 80s teams, of course the Rangers acquired almost all those plyers at some point by the mid 90s.

One of my favourite hockey memories is that of a five-on-five brawl between Rangers and Isles. Jason Blake decided he was up to the challenge. Mess just laughed while he held Blake and cinched up his jersey collar around his neck. Blake went through about 5 shades of purple with a look of panic on his face that I will NEVER forget!

You want to go to war, Be-lock-ay!!!!!

I actually felt sorry for Blake.

Mess never even through a punch if I remember correctly.
It was like the hockey version of holding someones forehead and they are too short to hit you with any punches.

I love the video banner "Messeir looks for smallest guy", um NO. He went to just make sure Blake stayed from the Simon/Scathard mugging. He could have dropped the gloves & really pummeled Blake but didn't. Don't forget Mess could fight when he had to.

"Jan Levine.

Scheifele may have signed a below market deal but still got $49 mil over eight years. Also, his original deal was two years and he had played just 11 games in the NHL in those two seasons. Scheifele second deal, which was for three years, had several performance bonuses, so he made $1.56 mil each of those years. In this case, Miller is coming off a strong season and has a bit more experience, so why not lock him up longer now rather than having to pay more down the road?"

Actually were both wrong.

Scheifele was drafted out of Major Jr just like Miller the same year actually. His ELC as required under the CBA coming out of Major Jr was 3 years but it slide for 2 as he was returned to Major Jr., played 7 NHL games in 2013-14 following his Jr season before stepping straight into the NHL playing 63 games his rookie year.

I had should have checked. I still believe in the bridgre concept. You pay market value now for 2 years & when you & if you sign them to a long term deal you pay market value then. Had NYR signed Miller for 8 years today it would cause serious cap issues today with so limited cap space.

Miller got 250K less than I assumed he would get, he would have got less had he gone to arbitration.

Kreiders a tough 1, 25 & time to decide if your locking him up long term which is problematic due to cap space today so not an option. NYR needs him to sign a 1 year show me deal or simply take the 1 year arbitration award. The downside is that Kreider is getting very close to his breakthrough point for monster forwards, his serious breakthrough should actually come in 2017-18 but he will post 25 to 30 goals next season & 55 to 60 points. Tough position for NYR to control as he has leverage with UFA status 2 years away is kind of in play.

Hayes 1.5 & McIlrath a mil on 1 year show me deals.

Based on Hoffman's arbitration award if I'm a player I don't want to end up in front of an arbitrator. Hoffman only got 2 mil after scoring 27 goals to lead all rookies & finishing 4th in points with 48. That's more goals & points in 1 season than Kredier's ever posted & Hoffman did it with almost no PP time. I sure hope Hoffman fired his agent.

That should leave about 2 mil in cap space to sign a #4 C & leave a small cushion.; depends on term
