Future looks bright for sure.
How much are we betting the Leafs make the playoffs this year?

An offer sheet to Kucherov can be really devastating to Tampa. If you offer a crazy deal like 5 years @ $7.5M per then you either only give up a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd or force Tampa to lose 60% of their available cap space then be free to offer sheet Namestnikov or Killorn next.
Likelihood though if you wanted Kucherov you would have to offer sheet in the $8M+ range, it forces TB to make a hard choice and potentially get your top line guy or completely screw up Tampa's cap. Sounds like a job for the Panthers! |

I am judging on the fact that a top 5 goalie was traded for Bo Horvat, leaving Markstrom (AHL hall of fame) as the future. And the assumed Sedin re-signs. Now if they sign for 4 each I will have a slightly different opinion. - FLflames34
The Schneider trade was almost like the Hall trade. We get a good player in return, but you kinda waited for ---- the 9th overall and? Larsson, and? If you do your research online you'll see why the Canucks traded Schneider. Or why Schneider asked to be traded. Or why a certain player got his "A" taken off his jersey. Just a terrible situation. The fact the Canucks ended moving Lou as well, but still have goaltending depth is pretty amazing.
Demko is the future. |

The Oilers are a better team right now than they were prior to July 1st.
But getting back to Montreal... Subban for Weber? Ouch! I mean, at least Edmonton traded from an area of strength to fill a hole... You guys better hope Price is healthy this year... You'll definitely need him lol - laughs2907
The whole issue is they deserved more for Hall. There is no question the Oil will be better this year.....you would think. Lose the lottery yet still win with JP at #4. |

Horvat is going to be a stud. But yea, he is no Schneider.
As for Bishop, that will be next offseason

Price is healthy? What's that got to do with PK, he didn't bail them out when Price went down last year.

Yea I can see Tampa wanted both when making another push for the Cup. They shouldn't have a problem moving him. CGY needs to shed salary (Wideman) |

You always claim to be willing to change your opinions when presented with new information so take a look at this article. It's not out to disprove "fancy" stats, quite the opposite actually, but it does give a pretty thoughtful explanation as to why some players can look so good according to analytics (Miller, Rundblad), yet be so bad in reality.

What I was saying is that without Price, they have a terrible team, as was evident when Price went down last year. Montreal fans can attempt to divert attention to the Oilers all they want (we know our team has sucked forever) but at least our GM is fixing some holes... |

I would have liked to have gotten a 1st in addition to Larsson, but it is what it is... The RD market is nuts right now. It would have been terribly if Lucic didn't sign here.
Yeah, we were so lucky the Jackets were picking #3 |

Well again, you're out to lunch on your facts, because when Schneider was traded it didn't leave Markstrom as the future, if left Luongo as the future of the club. Lu was still the #1 goaltender, with a massive contract, at the time.
Secondly, you can still build with the Sedins in your lineup, obviously, they finished 6th and 3rd last with them on the team. The Canucks are building thru the draft just like Calgary. |

If you guys really want to build thru the draft, you need to hire Kevin Lowe and dallas eakins |

I like the Martin deal, actually. But Polak indicates the Leafs still have some antiquated views that I thought they had gotten over. Personally, I hear you- it's one year and he probably gets you a 4th round pick in March, no big deal. - James_Tanner
If getting Polak under contract eradicated any plans to offer Russel $M & term, then it is a great signing. |

I really don't see Calgary being able to afford Bishop next year. I am fine with Elliott and the savings over Flower though. Maybe Elliott re-signs, and either Gillies or MacDonald step up in the next few yrs.
I poke holes at the Canucks, but I think it will be at least 3 yrs until Calgary has a clear contender status. Edmonton is much closer. |

I think you are always going to see these types signed to young teams.
You don't need the Cal Clutterbucks and Zac Rinaldo's taking runs at Matthews/Nylander/Marner.
Regardless of whether Martin or Polak actually effect that, it's still a mindset the NHL has - sbroads24
You hit the nail on the head with your last sentence. It's a complete and total waste of a contract by TOR. They actually have Martin on the books for FOUR YEARS. As what, protection for the kids? First of all, if they're ever actually even on the ice together, Babcock doesn't know how to form lines (i.e. Martin on the first line would be laughable, and that's the only way he'd be on the ice to "protect" Matthews). Second, the Isles have had Martin for years and teams never stopped going after Tavares, Viznovsky, etc. |

How was Luongo the future? Is Miller now the future?
Both teams are 3 yrs out or more. I may be a homer but I much prefer Calgary's rebuild approach (ie letting guys like Colborne walk). |

Price is back, you said ouch about Weber...did you want the Habs to trade for Bishop?
Weber is as good as PK, unless the .845786543 shots per game difference is that important?

When Price went down, Habs flaws were obvious: horrible top 6, lack of leadership and a soft team. MB did adress those needs with Weber Shaw and Radulov. Sure the russian remains a gamble but looking at the idiotic contract threw at the UFAs the past 3 years, i'm fine he didn't bite. |

You need a couples dirty (frank)ers on every team. You need to hit guys, make the D grip the stick a little tighter etc etc. You don't want 20 martins/Polaks but a couple won't hurt you.
Soon enough all the soft hearts will have no checking and no slappers rule and then even some of the top girls will be able to join the league. Yeah, sounds like a lot of fun. |
