But he doesn't score enough compared to the ice time he gets, he doesn't suppress shots (huge problem for a guy who's main contributions are supposed to be defensive) and he doesn't make players he plays with better, he makes them worse.
There are rookies on ECL on your AHL team who will contribute more than Troy Brouwer will. Sure, Lucic is over paid and over extended, but at least he'll come close to matching his salary when he scores 40 goals in each of the next two years. In Brouwer you paid money for a guy who quite literally makes your team worse. - James_Tanner
Now I know you're trolling. Lucic is going to put up 80 goals in two seasons after scoring 62 in his previous 3? |
|
|
|
Lucic 40 goals?
O K man now this is just for the lulz. I thought your Yandle bit was bad, but this is some next level delusion. - FLflames34
Maybe I'm overrating the Connor McDavid factor, but I think Lucic is going to score a lot of easy ones next year. |

Good point, but at least next year Neilson will make Detroit better. If someone wants to think longer term, I have no problem with that. Even if you like the Brouewer deal, I don't have a problem with that. There are - I suppose - some positives.
But I am just saying there are so many reasons to criticize it that calling a guy names and acting like a moron is completely insane. I just feel a few people could try acting like adults and being respectful to the people who provide them with free entertainment.
And yeah, clearly fighting a losing battle here, but someone needs to say it. - James_Tanner
In all fairness, you are the hot take king around here, so you should expect your fair amount of abuse.
I preferred Calgary to sign 0 FAs. None. Didn't happen, so I will take what they got, which is size. Edmonton is getting much bigger, and this is a necessity. Brouwer is an overpaid 3rd liner who has a penchant for clutch goals. Still not the worst contract. Nielsen is worse, Ott is worse (should be out of the league), Lucic is worse, Stewart is worse, ect. |

As history has shown us; the vast majority of the "big" deals we saw signed yesterday will be seen in hindsight as bad deals. It's extremely rare for a big signing to live up to the hype and contract.

Yep. I much prefer the Johnson signing to the Brouwer one, but Edmonton forced our hand. Had to add size. Still, at least both teams aren't relying exclusively on FAs. Ill just hope for the best that he is a good 3RW going forward (though probably starts at 2RW which shows the terrible depth there).
And judging FA should be more than hero charts. If there is a glaring deficiency it could be an ok signing for a team, even if number and term suck. |

I think the Reimer signing was bad. No need to give 5 years to a goaltender if that caliber. |

Yeah, but for one year it is OK. Even it blows up in their face (Habs fans are used to stuff being blown on their face), it is only one season. |

At this point, a "hot take" is anything that isn't' designed to straddle both sides and try to look like you're being very 'thoughtful.' Of all the stupid words and phrases that exist because of the internet "hot take" falls somewhere between "OMG" and "LOL." |

Wasn't noting it as an insult, just an observation that you often take polarizing takes for the sake of causing a board fissure. One could say it breeds debate, another could say it is purposely orchestrated to be provocative to produce hits. Since you are compensated on this, one could infer that 'Yandle is a top 3 Dman in the league' as just this. Whatever. I still read your blogs if only for the lulz. |

I have never once written anything I didn't truly believe. Fact is, people think anyone who disagrees with them is 'trolling.'
Keith Yandle was actually the statistical third best defenseman in the NHL for a period of time behind Karlsson and Buff - I think it was 09-12 - but I'd have to look it up.
Or at least he was by may way of looking at things - no one is saying it's a fact.

Since we are having a friendly discourse, you can often come across to dissenters as asserting your opinion is fact. Maybe this is not how you mean it to appear, and one could certainly not accuse you of wavering from your beliefs (however musguided they sometimes are), but it can seem antagonistic. I will concede some go to your blogs just to bait you and I can imagine that gets old. |

When you say someone was "statistically" the third best in the Nhl but they clearly were no where near the third best then that should tell you there is something off in your "statistical" analysis. |

I don't buy this notion that the Flames had to add size. Having Engelland and Bollig did nothing to protect the skill guys. Adding Brouwer won't change anything to that effect. People often refer to how they were handled in the anaheim series, and use it as proof that size is needed. I tend to believe it had more to do with lack of experience, and no depth.
I'm not a big fan of the Brouwer signing, but i don't think it's the worst. The ML, LE, KO, and DB deals will be better for the short term, but the goal isn't for short term success. If chia gets Edmonton 1 cup, does it make it worth while? They have McD, anything less than 4+ cups over the next decade is a failure in my eyes. |

Hockey Analytics are half baked and saying Yandle was the third best Dman, statistically is evidence of that. It's an evolving thing but right now it only tells part of the story. |

- arps714
Agreed. The long term deals for older guys like Ladd and Backes are the ones that will hurt in the end. Brouwer at 4.5 for only 4 is good value for Calgary.
-jackzack87
TANNER:
You think because he scored some playoff goals he's "clutch" but what he really is is a fourth liner who just got overpaid because of recency bias.
Here's a chart that shows you might has well have given $4 million bucks to Kyle Chipchura.
http://public.tableau.com...KSW97T?:display_count=yes
But please, continue to do no research, form opinions out of thin air and then insult anyone who disagrees with you. - James_Tanner
Wow. When did I say any of that? Did I call the guy "clutch" or bring Chipchura into the conversation? I like the signing, I like the player, and I dislike your assessment of it, but you don't need to get personal or take it as an attack. Give me this example where I insulted you and created some "thin air" opinions. I think a body of work and several 20 goal seasons for a 3rd line player speaks for itself.
You're a hit and run shockjock looking for an argument Tanner. |

It would if Eichel was anywhere near as good as McDavid...but you know...hes not...
And he's already been playing with Tavares which inflated his stats more than Eichel ever will. |
