Only thing with JVR is he is at his max value now (presumably). His age would suggest he is in his prime, and his contract will never be better value than it is right now.
by holding onto JVR we are essentially wasting his most productive and best value years on a bottom feeder. Whereas other teams may see value in trading futures for him as they are in win now mode.
JVR likely has more value to us now as a trade chip than he would in the future. (Especially once his contract runs out and he gets a big raise) - Leafs43
Trade deadline is where to make that move, See where they are in the standings.
Yes. I hold out hope. |

Unless management see him as a core piece, are willing to re-sign him long term and believe there is more there.
If you asked me last summer I would have said trade him in a millisecond. Now with some damn good prospects at center he could be an important piece. Plus we forget that he is young. |

Okay - so it was franked last year when he asked to play on the Leafs, or did is suddenly flare up when he was placed on waivers? - winsix
It's been franked for years.
But guys play through injuries to try to keep their jobs.
My wild guess is that he was playing through pain, then he got traded and the Leafs told him to stay home, so he then went to a doctor to try to get himself fixed.
If your hip was franked, wouldn't you do everything you could to fix it? |

Well if Hall only gets Larsson, Gardiner should be enough for Duschene. |

Might be too rich? I wouldn't want the Leafs to give Russell $4m over 4 years, let alone per (frank)ing year... - lumlums
I'm not even joking when I say that I think Wiz is the best remaining UFA defenseman.
Something I'm missing that is wrong with Pirri? Surprised no one has bit yet. |

But adding Bozak guarantees an instant yes from Sakic |

Why do we want Duchene? We have a plethora of centre's now. I know it doesn't make sense but it's true. I'd like a top four dman without giving up jvr. In my mind jvr and kadri are the only proven top six forwards we have. |

It is so franking weird to talk about the Leafs having depth at centre.

I mean, the way I see it...when we're ready to compete , whether that's between 3-5 years from now...JVR will be Corey Perry's age. Of course Perry is better of the 2, but the age is what would be similar, on a competing team. I'm all for extending JVR, and keeping him as a core piece going forward. With Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kadri, JVR... that's a good 5 man forward crop right there. Add another top 4 dman with Rielly & Gardiner ..plus Andersen. |

Anyone know if there is a website that keeps track of how many times an EK rumour has come true? Or does he keep track anywhere on this site? |

IMO, I'd like to add another top 6 LW if we could. Unfortunately FA might not be how we do it, because the only real LW next yr is Jamie Benn, and no way Dallas let's him go. 2018 the list is Nash (meh), JVR, E. Kane (kid needs to get his act together), and James Neal. |

I'm not to crazy about signing a 32 year old guy who missed last year due to knee surgery. |

Agreed. I'm okay with a short term deal for Wiz or even Jultz; it'd probably drop Zeitsev onto the top line, but that sounds more appealing than handing out big money for a guy like Russell...
EDIT: As for Pirri I have no idea. I'd happily ship out Bozak for picks and sign him instead |
