Or you can save it and invest in the future, when the market is not FUBAR.
- Marwood

You always were frugal I'd like to them add one "cheaper" top 6 and save $5 million in cap space for a rainy day

I asked you this yesterday when you mentioned Friday will determine whether you like or dislike Benning...what do you consider an optimal TDL? One big signing? No signings and save the cap space? I'm curious because it's sounded like judgement day
- CanuckDon

Save the cap space. We're not ready to compete.
The numbers being thrown around are ridiculous.

If we get Jamie McGinn at a reasonable number I am good with that. Younger, has more potential and won't break the bank.

I would be happy with no signings or say a Ladd at 4 mill and Ericsson at 5 over 3 years. I like Backes but he is gonna cost. If these two guys ^ are available for a decent cap hit fine. A$$hats like LUcic making 6 million is stupid. 20 goal scores don't get that kind of money. Nor do they deserve it. Everyone talks about intangibles that guys like him bing to the table. I don't care. Goals win games stopping goals win games if you can score. 20 goals is $hit.

I want to see consistency from JB. Sometimes making a splash isn't making one at all.

The market is always going to be FUBAR, and if you don't at least try and sign someone big and use that space, it starts to make Vancouver a less attractive destination when it comes time that we need older veteran UFAs to complement the core. We need a top-6 forward and despite what happened today, we're not getting one via trade, not for what we'd offer or be prepared to give up for one.

Those guys will cost more...totally understand where you are coming from but this fanbase won't tolerate $10 million in cap space. There would be a (frank)ing riot. Me Personally, I want the team to win some games and that's not happening unless we add a 20-30 goal scorer

I stand by you don't need to spend the cap space now to get better. Free agency is not a friend of asset management.

4th line.
- Marwood

Sedin Sedin Hansen
Sven Sutter UFA
Etem Horvat Rodin
Dorsett Granlund Burrows
JV, Gaunce

Edler Tanev
Hutton Gudbranson
Sbisa Tryamkin
Biega Pedan

as it stands... the d is looking okay except for the 3rd pairing/depth.
We need at least one scoring UFA for the top 6. I wouldn't mind a better 4th line centre. and see Gaunce and JV start in Utica.

it's amazing how divided this fanbase is. Some want a winner or Bennings head while the rest want an Edmonton tank or Bennings head. Either way Benning is screwed...poor bastsrd

It's like kids freaking out before Christmas, once everyone realizes they didn't get exactly what they want, they reluctantly make do and move on as best they can.
Most will be fine by the time training camp is looming.

I just want some entertaining hockey from them. I feel Gudbranson will help the back end in a physical way and it's possible Tryamkin makes strides to the cause as well. Up front I just want to see a couple new faces but I don't care the cost, just the term and how old they are.

I'd prefer to see us find an RFA that wasn't qualified sign like Pirri, Connolly, Colborne, etc. Boedker, McGinn and Okposo are my favs for UFA's.

I don't mind losing as long as the effort is there and some games last year it was lacking more often than not. Virtanen would benefit from a year in Utica and we could sign some cheap guys to 1 year show me contracts to fill the gaps. The top line with the Sedins is the only reason why we should spend money. The rest should be cheap young guys that can improve like Baertschi did. Connolly had a similar year to Baertschi and is 24. Pirri is a bit of a gamble but still only 25 and had a good season in 2014-15. McGinn might cost a bit more but he brings a bit of grit as well. Maybe even a Lucic lite you could call him but he did get 20 goals last year.

It can be done cheap, get it done Benning!

I just want Benning to put out the best possible team he can, whether that comes by paying for a high-priced UFA, via trade or via internally. I want the team to try and win even if they aren't good enough to. I know this for a fact, FA is not the kind of person to sit back and take losing money for very long. He's proven this by turning Gillis in his last year into a lame duck GM and hiring a coach that did more to embarrass this franchise in one year than any had in it's history.

The thing with Gaunce is he should make the NHL soon or be traded. As it is he could be unprotected and get drafted in expansion. 1 more year or he may never make it.
