You make it sound like Chiarelli called Murray, offered him Hall, and Murray said nah, not interested. There are a bunch of teams that probably would've offered way more for Hall. For whatever reason Chiarelli made this trade.

I'm definitely not upset at Murray for today. It's clear to me that Hall wasn't shopped around AT ALL.

I think its a timing thing though. 2 years? i mean, we're hoping for the playoffs this coming season and then may be a deep run in 17-18….and then what? he's too old to renew and we need to shop again. I'd rather have someone who goes through those playoff losses with the team and stays, personally. Sounds like Nash would just be a placeholder….an expensive one.

Nylander comes in and so does Bailey and Fasching hopefully.

Sure he is a placeholder and an expensive one but he would be a good one and better than what we have now

Yeah I wasn't moving Risto...its that simple. I would have moved Risto for Subban though!!! But I doubt that's even close to enough.

I was excited for July 1 but now I don't think anything is going to happen for us that day now

I would honestly not care if they do not bring in any UFA's this year and go this route for one more year. Bring up Nelson as well.

Mature for another year, see how the other prospects progress in the lower leagues, and go into next year as the year to step up to the playoffs.

On the bright side his contract comes off the books when you need to give more money to Reinhart and Eichel.
- Pierceme69

i guess that does just make him a placeholder though then.

I say no to Nash. I think he is a Richard. He was too good to come to buffalo 4 years ago. F him. We're too good for him now. Stick with the youth. Hoff and Vesey would be great. Hoff is gonna cost a player, Okposo will only cost money, which Sabres should have plenty of without Stammer. I'm good with McGinn too.

Am I in the minority that would rather see Reinhart play with ROR than Eichel? Not saying Eich doesn't have a good work ethic, but Reinhart and ROR are cut from the same mold. ROR/Reinhart/McGinn had great chemistry.

I am thinking about Tampa Bay. It seems to me that they waited on their own homegrown talent to progress, and then were in the playoffs one year, and went deep in the two season after that.

Did Tampa ever sign a UFA to a large contract? Boyle is the only one I can think of, but that was cheap. A good model to follow, imo.

Exactly. Every time I hear someone say "we gotta do something now" I cringe. We're on the right path and we haven aggressive GM. It will get done.

1.) Extend Risto
2.) Sign Jimmy Vesey
3.) Sign Boedker, maybe McGinn?
4.) Trade 28 ++ for Fowler
5.) Let the team grow.

Filppula is a bad contract they have.

Callahan was traded for.

Their defense with Garrison and Carle is bought.
