I was hearing upwards of 7-7.5M... which is insane. But that's what free agency does. Once the big fish signs, people will turn their attention to the next best and that guy usually gets seriously overpaid.

You think Hoffman is going to have a big(ger) cap hit but for a short term on his upcoming deal? I highly doubtful considering his production and his age.

I understand the hesitation on giving Okposo north of $6M for a long term, but he is only 28, and his production has been very strong the past 3 seasons.

Does everyone believe his production is going to fall off a cliff when he doesn't play with Tavares? If Eichel is who we all think he is, it should remain the same.

Based on his last 3 years, he is absolutely worth $6M per for 5 years, which would pay him until he is 34, based on the way salaries are going and his last 3 years production.

No, but he won't get 6.5- 7mil as an RFA. He also is two years younger than Okposo and has been able to generate offense without an elite center.

Okposo has put up impressive numbers, and he won't fall off a cliff with Eichel, but you could get similar production via trade IMO for a shorter commitment

A consistent 60+ point free agent is gonna get paid and paid well. He's still got 3-4 good years left. His possession numbers are actually pretty good and he consistently makes his team mates better when he's on the ice. I don't know why the guy gets so much hate.

Granted, I'm the guy who hated ROR with a passion, mostly because of his off ice crap. So I'm not one to talk.

He's a good player still and deserves what he gets on the overpayment market.

I would have offered the 8th pick, Girgensons + for him. Girgensons could have replaced Backus. I'm sure that wouldn't be enough.

That price tag is understandably massive. It'll come down though. Would be a great trade deadline acquisition, or a sign n trade or trade n sign piece prior to the expansion draft
