I don't know if he made a Mockery of the mock drafts but we could use more toughness, grit and depth on the left side. I'm hoping our picks workout but I think I like the offensive upside a little more on a Max Jones. I think only when we findout who is more productive is when we findout whether or not Hextall was right. By pick 22, Jones was rated as the better player.

Lots of places had Rubtsov ahead of Jones. And they're both 2-3 years away. We have LW prospects closer than that in Lindblom and NAK.

You'll also see Pascal Laberge on several of those top 30 rankings.

Hexy in his interview was very skeptical. Not sure there is an out clause. According to Bill, he'd have to be outright released by the team, with compensation. Given he's one of Russia's young stars, you have to imagine they aren't so eager. Hexy kept saying that if he comes to NA, great, but they don't expect it and took him perfectly fine with him playing in the KHL. He'll get good minutes there anyway to appease him.

What's preferable: going to a poop junior team here or playing perhaps middle 6 KHL
minutes?

I don't imagine it will be without issues for him to come over now instead of when his current contract run out.

Ahhh, who cares? Winning without fighting, scoring or (frank)ing around is boring. Who wants that?

Also, Rubtsov has never scored a point in his entire life.

Not going to lie, winning without scoring would be pretty exciting. I have no clue how it would be done. I'd watch that to find out.

I think the Flyers did a solid job at the draft. Trading down was a great move. They really pulled out a solid group of kids.

After walking those three defenders from Finland, he should have shot it instead of hitting the open man with a perfect backhand pass at full speed.

He should've shot from center ice actually and avoided all that wasted energy.

I understand the thought process and I won't lie: I do wish there was more scoring in the game. I like 50-goal scorers and multiple 100-point seasons and long point streaks

But it's the coaches, man. They aren't having that. They know that job security is enhanced if they can control the game, and once Jacques Lemaire proved you can win a Cup by actively trying not to score but instead waiting for the other team to make a mistake...we were done for.

I remember reading back in 1995 that if the league didn't step in and ban the trap and interference in the neutral zone, there was going to be a price to pay. And you saw scoring drop almost every season

What was worse: You saw guys who could score but who weren't the best defensive players get basically ran out of the game. Ray Ferraro talks about that all the time, how it makes no sense that some coaches worship guys who can defend but can't score but loathe guys who can score but aren't as good defensively

I don't know...the goaltenders' size has increased, players are bigger and faster. I don't know how you get scoring back up -- you get a goalie with a .905 SVPCT today, and that guy might not have a job in the league.

Back in the day, a .905 could mean you were in contention for a Vezina

It's a way that has shown to be effective at winning. Cannot fault a team for that. I just love when teams like Chicago, Pittsburgh and Tampa shove it up the ass of those kind of teams.

Could happen he goes there, but maybe he helps lift them up to be a better team?

Unless he's one and done in the CHL and then on to the AHL (which is probably not likely), I'd rather he just spent the 2 years in the KHL than that honestly.

He should've been less vocal about wanting to go to the CHL haha. But we know why he did it.

I mean, really, what it boils down to is how do you want to play? I think it's pretty clear how the Flyers want to play under Hextall and Hakstol.

I'm fine with how they want to play, tbh. They need more speed (and determination in a few slots) to play that way, but I think you can win that way and that is all that matters to me

Bottom line for me: I like the Auston Matthews and Patrik Laines of the world just like everybody else.

But I am a miserable bastard to be around when a team I care about as much as the Flyers is in the running for that. I can't swallow losing like that, night after night. The thought of being the Oilers...that would crush my soul. It would suck the life out of me.

They are talking about trading RNH and Yakupov, possibly Eberle. If they do, that means that the fanbase will have seen two seasons where they finished last or next to last or whatever, drafted first, and didn't see either one of them play a playoff game.

Think about all the freaking losing they have done. All those high picks. And none of them have played a playoff game. Sam Gagner was the first to get cut loose, and he played his first playoff game out of all those picks. With the Flyers.

I can't even fathom that. If it comes down to having German Rubstov two-waying me to victory or Taylor Hall scoring 80-plus points and I am in the lottery, come on down, German

I wouldn't want to see a kid who doesn't turn 18 for a few days go to the AHL. That's probably not worth bringing him over for anyway.

The CHL route I quite like. His 3 zone game is as mature as anyone his age. Allowing him to cultivate and explore his offensive capabilities against his peers sounds good. I'd love to see Allison go to Brandon too. Play a year on Patrick's wing -- then go to the AHL.

Holy cow. I know I am beating the goalie thing to death, but I was just looking back through some notes and clippings I had saved.

Does anybody remember that just a few years ago, Cal Heeter was no worse than our No. 2 goaltending prospect?

Yikes. Keep on drafting those goaltenders, Ron Hextall. Keep right on doing what you do
